Pirates are 3.5 back. Cards hearing footsteps...

They've been on our tail for a while. Pirates and Cubs are both legit.

best division in the MLB this year

I still dont understand the purpose of that 2nd wild card spot. I know it gets more fanbases involved in the playoff chase later into the season, but it basically devalues the wild card spot.

The entire point of the wild card was to give a non-division winner the chance to win the WS. Essentially they were saying "sometimes theres a great team that gets left out in the cold because they just happened to be in the same division as the best team in the league".

What makes no sense is, adding the 2nd wild card spot has punished the wild card team. Now you have to win a 1 game playoff, even if you were well ahead of the 2nd wild card team in the standings. You could be 5+ wins better than the 2nd team, yet the only advantage you reap from it is home field advantage in a sudden death series.

Then the winner who emerges from that game enters the LDS having to go on the road to face the best team in the league, having already burned its ace. So now the very wild card team that baseball put in place to give someone else a chance has been knocked in the knees with a pipe and spun around 10 times and pushed into the first round...

Obviously the Giants overcame all that last season, so it CAN still work, but it took a superhuman performance. It just feels counterproductive.

I hope the MLB reworks their playoffs similar to what the NBA is doing.

Say the season ends today.

You're gonna have a playoff between the Pirates and Cubs. How is the #1 seed in the NL rewarded? By playing one of those two in their first series.

As long as you take out the Dodgers.

Pitching is gonna be key. If it happens it will be tough considering how well the Dodgers big 2 have been pitching lately.

Wainwright/Wacha/Martinez/Lackey/Lynn

Kershaw/Greinke/Anderson/Wood/Latos

Wainwright isnt coming back this year. Its not worth pushing it. If he does, itll be like Chris Carpenter in 2012, which was a failure.

I read the other day that after Wainwright was talking about his postseason comeback, Mozeliak afterwards was kind of like "...yeah thats not happening."

You don't know that. It all depends on how he does in his rehab assignment. Mozeliak mentioned he isn't just gonna let Adam make the decision. They're gonna be cautious with it. Just a little early to claim him done, because that has yet to be determined.

Couldn't finish off the sweep, but another series win. Hopefully sweep the Nationals and help put them out of their misery.

Could be over 40 games above .500 after this next homestand.

Ha.

Lol you have set yourself up to take so much s**t if the Cardinals don't win the WS this year. If they do congrats, but if they don't can't wait to watch the fun and games that I know will happen.

Lol I don't care man. I'm simply saying the truth. Sorry if you hearing them being the BTIB bothers you so much.

Don't think me saying that warrants any taunting. Especially if your team isn't even in it. Knowing a lot of guys on here tells me that it will happen regardless. Same dudes that will be nonexistent if the Cards win it all and be in full force if they get eliminated. Real class acts.

You aren't worried in the slightest about your vastly overworked bullpen?

Not really. Once they secure their position for the playoffs, guys will be given days off. They won't be forced into using Manness, Siegrist, and Rosenthal every night. PLUS that is a key reason why guys like Broxton and Cishek were brought in. Walden and Belisle will be back.
