Right, a catcher hitting .270 with 4 HR is the most irreplaceable player in baseball.
Ask anybody that actually knows baseball and they'll tell you the same. I knew mentioning Molina's name would bring you out.
Saying ridiculous and untrue things will usually draw a comment from me.
Molina is the heart and soul of your team. I get it. But if you lost Molina for the year, you could still win the WS. Itd be less likely, but you could. There are teams who rely more heavily on players, who would be done without them.
I have to agree with 99. I can think of several players that are more valuable and irreplaceable than Molina. We aren't talking about the Yadi of a few years ago.
His defense and control of the pitching staff is still there. Ability to call a game. He is in there more innings than any catcher. Your casual fan or even someone who doesn't watch the Cardinals games won't see that. He is the only catcher in baseball with a catchers ERA below 3. (2.80). He has allowed the fewest stolen bases of any catcher. Just shuts down the running game. Its easy to sit there and say OH HE ONLY HAS 4 HOME RUNS! But there is so much more going on that he controls. Not gonna sit here and argue though because we already know Buster Posey is the greatest baseball player of all time. Right?
The funny thing is, you preach about Molina's defense, his arm, and his game calling skills, but then try and use that as a reason why hes more valuable than Posey, yet you always fail to realize how great Posey is at all of those things. Posey is an elite game caller/staff handler. Hes an elite pitch framer. Posey even has a higher fielding % than Molina this season, which leads baseball at .998. Posey is only throwing out a slightly less % of runners as Molina.
Since 2010 when Posey entered the league, he has 17 passed balls. Molina has 29. Even if you factor in the extra innings Molina has caught over Posey in that span, it totals out to Posey allowing a passed ball once every 271 innings caught, and Molina once every 229 innings caught. So all this time when you see Posey unable to block a ball, and you say "Molina would've had that", it should've been the other way around.
And obviously we don't need to talk about the hitting side of this comparison.
Just man up and admit that Posey is the better baseball player, or admit that you're a Cardinals homer.
BTW, the SABR defensive index thinks that Posey should win the GG this year.
