Healthier doesn't always equate to the most revenue though sadly and that's all they care about. I feel like I'm in my last years as a sports fan. I don't really watch football, hockey, or baseball at all anymore. Haven't the last few years really. The NBA and the Jazz were my number one sport and Donovan helped that a lot when he came in but players don't stay with the same team anymore. They're just mercenaries jumping around to get a ring and they're off to the next place where it's easy for them to get to the finals. I understand it from the business side but it really sucks as a fan. It's easy in NASCAR to root for your one driver no matter what team he goes to since it's about the individual not the team itself. These other sports are just sad as hell though especially when you go for the underdog.Originally posted by Niners99:Originally posted by JustinMT:He would have been a RFA if he did try to test the market. Only question was whether or not he was gonna get a 4 year deal in RFA or a 5 by Utah. Gobert is gonna be resigned to another max deal here too. All the Jazz beat reporters have said the Jazz are done with free agency and their priorities are resigning Don and Rudy, so he knew Rudy wasn't going anywhere when he agreed to the deal. They better try to do something next summer or the year after because the clock is officially ticking. Rudy I can see being in Utah forever. Donovan's brand is gonna be gigantic by the time his contract expires and I can't see him staying unless we at least get to the WCF and the Finals for a couple years in a row.Originally posted by Niners99:Originally posted by JustinMT:Well we now know our deadline for a championship.
Its just big that Mitchell was willing to stay. He could've gotten a max from about anyone had he waited for free agency. Makes me wonder if he told the team he'd extend if they replaced Gobert. Contract came only a couple days after drafting a Gobert clone.
Unfortunately, unless we add another superstar that compliments Mitchell, it's unlikely that we can make a real championship run in these next 5 years.
The NBA needs to find a way to help small market teams keep their superstar players. Some incentive to prevent the bigger, more desirable markets from just using their location as an easy tiebreaker. In the long run its much healthier for the league to try and get back to having parity, and allowing small markets to build up quality rosters that can compete for titles.

Sources tell ESPN that Donovan Mitchell also has a player option after the fourth year of his rookie max extension.

Very, I'm assuming they have someone on their radar that they value more than Ray, bit of a bummer though. I wanted to see how he'd be this year.

Looks decent, although I prefer the original gradient version.

The Utah Jazz have signed former Chicago Bulls guard Shaquille Harrison.
— KSL 5 TV (@KSL5TV) December 9, 2020
Harrison helps fill the Jazz void at back-up point guard, which was otherwise occupied by guards Joe Ingles and Nigel Williams-Goss.@kslsports #TakeNote https://t.co/uGUShXuNLD

Because they know that no all-star caliber players will ever sign in Utah, so if they dont keep the ones they draft they're screwed.

So you make him the third highest paid player in the league? That's just stupid. He would have signed for 185 or so I'm sure. There's no reason why he should be making 15 million more than AD.

Its a desperation tax. Rudy knows replacing him is going to be difficult. The Jazz are basically rolling the dice that they can find that last piece to make them title contenders in the next 5 years.
