***Utah Jazz Thread ***

If the guy purposely avoids passing to his center, who's wide open in the post countless times, for guys to shoot contested jumpers or for himself to force a shot up, then how are they gonna be expected for win? Getting 4 first round picks from a team that will be much improved over the next several years isn't exactly a win. The Jazz just made them easily a top 4 seed with the addition of Gobert and his defense.

Didn't the Miller family put a % of the ownership into a legacy trust that would prevent the Jazz from being able to be moved away from Utah? Plus, Ryan Smith is from Utah and his company is located there. Im sure that part of the agreement for the sale of the team was based around him never moving them as well. Plus the NBA tries to avoid relocating teams at all costs. If Sacramento can keep the Kings around with their weak fanbase then the Jazz aren't leaving Utah.

Nah. I would still take Warriors, Clippers, Suns, and Grizzlies over Minnesota even with Gobert. And Gobert may be good during the regular season but when teams go small he will have to be replaced like usual. Gobert is good but not great in my opinion. I think Ainge did a great job getting 5 first round picks for him.

I would be very surprised if the team left Utah. There are 2 cities though, Seattle and Vegas, that will get teams at some point. Maybe it will be from expansion.

They won't leave, that trust should prevent that. I only said that because Smith seems completely out of touch with the fanbase with okaying these horrible jerseys and I haven't been a fan of the Ainge hire since it happened. I worry that Wade may have too much of his ear. I'm pretty sick of rebuilds though and it's m not even sure if I'll watch any of next season yet.
Utah doesn't need to leave, just give the name back to New Orleans and do a re-brand

The Jazz have been in Utah for 40+ years. The name is Utah now. Giving it to New Orleans doesn't make any sense. Not to mention that would be the third different name for a New Orleans franchise in the last 20 years. You can't portray stability if you are constantly rebranding yourself.

Agreed. Utah Jazz actually sounds better than New Orleans Jazz. People need to get over the name not matching the city. LA isn't known for its lakes either.

Ainge just pulled off one of the biggest trade fleecings of all time. Getting Gobert made Minnesota a bit better now, but they're paying 2 bigs an astronomical amount of money. Gobert is in his mid 30's now. They have no idea if Towns and Rudy can even play on the court together. Plus as soon as Edwards needs his extension they'll probably have to trade Towns. I don't see those picks we got being bad at all.

Guess we'll see but if this turns out to be 4 picks in the twenties as Jazz luck would usually have it then it's a huge win for for the Wolves.
I sincerely believe that Gobert will be trade in February before deadline, if no one from the main team gets injured. He won't be able to play normally with KAT.

Gobert is not mid-30s. I think I heard he just turned 30.

But, I think Jazz did an amazing job in the trade. Gobert's contract was ridiculous - not only got that off the books - you got 4 unprotected picks. That's pretty damn good. If Durant and Kyrie come to West - West should get better. It's not out of the question that with an injury or poor start - a team that was supposed to be top 4 ends up in the play-in or completely out of it. And - there is no way to know where the teams will be in 2027 and 2029.

Lastly - I think Jazz should do the same with Mitchell. They should do what OKC has done. Create as much cap space as possible - not for FAs but to take on bad contracts and acquire as many picks as possible over the next 2-3 years. Draft is a crapshoot - you can land a star with a pick in teens. Give yourself as many chances.
I knew this was the case but Rudy was made the scapegoat.

It became increasingly obvious that he wasn't the mature-for-his-age leader that you hope your young budding star would be. Its a shame.

Yeah and I was really worried after he was such a diva when Rudy and him got covid. He was so immature during that situation even though no one knows who got them sick. There was no reason to cause so much strife during that time and I feel like the team was only held together by Joe Ingles. As soon as they traded him this last season, everything went to hell.
