We're back baby!

I know it's funny to say that after beating an FCS team but the truth is A LOT of FCS teams were better than us last season and in our onlt win last season (against am FCS team) we were losing at several times throughout the game and by as much as 10 points.

We still have a long way to go, but I bet you we have the conference's attention now. A 5-0 start is not out of the question. I hate that ESPN's recap hints at a QB controversy when it's obvious Goff is a terrific passer with a very bright future. Our depth at WR is unfair.
Was on the hill and loving every minute! Cal is now playing with passion & heart!

ROLL ON YOU BEARS!!!!!
Every muscle in my body screams this weekend. This is what happens when an old, out-of-shape, fat man with a bad back goes tromping around the hills of UC Berkeley, trying to keep up with those 20-something Cal students.

Lots of folks just didn't show up. We were nine rows back, near the 10 yard line, to the left of the band and the student cheering section. Wife was in heaven, as she screamed all game long: "Our dirty Golden Bear, is losing all his hair..."

Stopped off at Henry's Gastropub after the game, sat in one of the prime bay window seats, and enjoyed two pitchers of ice cold beer after the game. It was a perfect break for them screamin' leg muscles. After that? A visit two doors down to the original Top Dog, where we got a nice treat before hoofing it back down the big hill for the downtown Berkeley BART station, a trip back to Richmond and the Capitol Corridor train back to Sacramento...

Good times...
My legs still hurt. And it's Tuesday. Damn.
I am looking at your roster and its crazy to me how your team isn't a lot better. By recruit rankings you should have a top notch team.

QB Goff - 4 stars
RB Lasco - 4 stars
WR Treggs - 5 stars
WR Lawler - 4 stars
RT Rigsbee - 4 stars

DE Scarlett - 4 stars
DT Jalil - 4 stars
DE Barr - 4 stars
MLB Barton - 4 stars
CB Dozier - 4 stars
FS McClure - 4 stars

That is 11 4 stars or better . And none of them are seniors, so if not this year then next year no excuses to not be competing with Oregon/Stanford.

For comparison, ASU only has 3 4-star players that are starting (2 of whom are true freshman).

Honestly I don't care about rankings anymore. I would take a 2 star with heart & a chip on his shoulder over a 4 star anyday.

Lasco being a good example, sure he may have been a 4-star recruit but he hasn't been anything special during his time at Cal. Darius Powe was a 4-star recruit as well. Dozier was a WR recruit recently switched to CB. Scarlett, Jalil, and even Barton I think have dealt with injuries at one point or another.

And yes Bill, that's mostly Ted's boys, we know.

Obviously recruit rankings don't directly translate to on the field success. The most obvious examples are UCLA pre-Jim Mora always had 4-star recruits and didn't do much, or Oregon State winning with 3 star or 2 star recruits.

Overall though, recruit rankings matter and are a useful predictor to the talent on the field.

I don't think CAL has any excuse for not being a 7 or 8 win team this season, and a 10-win squad next season. I'm pretty sure ASU tried to get Lawler, Barton and Dozier and they'd be starting on our team if they were at ASU (btw, I am pretty sure Dozier was expected to be a CB, but CAL recruited him as a WR to get him to commit).

You are playing @ Arizona in 2 weeks, that should be a slam dunk easy win. UTSA nearly beat Arizona, and they did with basically a team filled with walk-ons.

yeah I'd be pretty disappointed if we don't come through there, especially since we should be pretty hungry for our first conference win under Dykes. Personally I feel a 5-0 start is something we can achieve, and with how Washington got shredded inthe air by Eastern f**king Washington this past weekend I think our chances are pretty good for a W in that game as well. After that it's complicated. 5 of our last 6 opponents are ranked and we haven't won in Corvallis since 2006.

By the way, anybody noticed how great the Tampa Bay offense looks this preseason?

OK -- back to Cal Football -- tickets obtained for the September 6th game against the Sacramento State Hornets. Coming to town via Capitol Corridor train. The wife and I will be firmly planted in the Bar Car. With my Fresno State duds on, I'll be easy to spot.

Who else is going?
