I don't know if anybody recalls, but the Dutch started off going nuts in the 2008 Euro Cup, beating Italy (defending WC champs at the time) 3-0, France 4-1 and Romania 2-0. Then they lost their first knockout stage match against Russia 3-1. Robben, Sneijder and Van Persie were all on that team, so hopefully they'll keep that in mind because as good as they looked today, Chile could easily beat them. If Holland truly wants to contend, they need to win the group to avoid both Brazil and Germany.

Maybe true, and you make a valid point. That aside, their side will probably now need 2 wins,
and a little luck (IMO), just to advance ... I don't know if a win, and a tie will advance them.
Stranger things have happened ...
Fans are irrational so of course they'll will over-react. The media will over-react as well. Spain doesn't have a world class striker and their back-end is not as good as 2010 WC. But, it's 1 game. s**t happens.
As far as making to knockout stage goes - I think Spain will still do that. IMO - Chile needs the WIN tonight against Australia.

They also lost all their games in the group stage at the '12 Euro.

Yeah, I wouldn't read too much into it. Spain is weaker and Holland is stronger than people thought. That doesn't rule out Spain as contenders and it doesn't necessarily mean the Dutch are. I want to see the Dutch play Chile first. I know Australia is just about the worst team in the WC, but Holland is the kind of team that could walkaway with a tie.

As for the italic bold, they have the experience, and the players ... just a question, as to how they rebound from this match ...
As for the bold (Chile), I am in total agreement with your comment. I'm sure as a side, they recognise the opportunity in front of them.

I honestly didn't understand the Spain line-up. You have Javi Martinez - why are you playing Xabi Alonso? With Xavi and Iniesta in the mid-field...you don't need another slow player. Javi is a better defender as well.
...and Xavi is done as a starter. As a Barca fan - it's tough for me to say but it's true. He should be used as a sub only - if that. Put in Mata or Fab along with Iniesta. Biggest problem for Spain is - they don't have a World class forward and they don't have a great CB. They've not been able to replace Villa and Puyol.

3 pts per win, 1 pt for draw, no points for losing of course. Main tiebreaker is goal differential, which makes the beatdown on Spain even more important.

I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I thought Pique was considered World Class at his position and that Ramos was supposed to be solid at worst.

Ramos had a bad game but Pique's game has really dropped off as of late.

Those dudes are young though. Thats crazy. Xavi and Alonso you can excuse due to age, but damn.
