Not a shot at anyone in particular. Dont follow the sport much and im calling it hows I sees it. Seems like there's a lot of Messi love and that's why everybody's going for Argentina. He's the best in the world as is LBJ, which is why the Heat had/have so many fans. Seems like its player love and not team love.

Hmmm, I guess I wouldn't really be able to answer. Being an Argentina fan since I was 4 I can't say I've seen a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon recently. Unlike the Heat, Argentina has been a major soccer force for decades. It's more than just Maradona before and Messi now. They produce stars on a consistent basis. In no particular order from most recent to years ago, you've got Di Maria, Aguero, Mascherano, Tevez, Cambiasso, Riquelme, Veron, Zanetti, Redondo, Ortega, Simeone, Aimar, Crespo, Caniggia, Batistuta, Ayala ... and that's only going back to the early 90's. Prior to that you still have guys like Ruggeri, Passarella, Kempes ... hell I'm sure I'm missing even more names. IMO a lot more people jump on the Brazil bandwagon than Argentina's, but admittedly you can take that as a biased opinion.
Argentina's lineup: Romero; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Garay, Rojo; Enzo Pérez, Biglia, Mascherano, Lavezzi; Messi, Higuaín.

Netherlands' lineup: Cillessen; Kuyt, Vlaar, De Vrij, Martins Indi, Blind; De Jong, Wijnaldum, Sneijder; Robben, Van Persie.

I'm glad to see De Jong in. Not saying he'll neutralize Messi or anything, but he's the best the Dutch have. Now that the lineups are revealed, what is your prediction?

I'll stick with Holland 2-1....but there is this gut feeling that its going to the PK.

Having watched every game by both teams so far, I have to give the edge to your boys. That's what my gut tells me. I'm 12-1 picking these games since the start of the round of 16 with my only blemish being picking Colombia over Brazil. God I hope I'm wrong. I know the game is played on the field and the unquestionable best player is Messi, but IMO the best team is Holland, and Van Gaal is way ahead of Sabella right now.

But even though Sabella gets a lot of criticism from me, he's still managed to bring the team so far, playing better defense than I ever thought they could. It sickens me so much to pick against my own especially given my record so far but it is what it is. I'll be rooting my ass off for Argentina in my little corner of this office hoping that emotions don't give me away to my coworkers (and hoping the boss will be nowhere around).

May the best team win

For sure, man. I'll be trying to keep my cool as well. In the end, I want a legitimate winner...nothing controversial that decides things.

I lived outside US as a kid and I started following NBA after seeing Reggie Miller took on the whole Knicks team by himself. Reggie was my favorite player growing up. Since he retired - it's Lebron. I'll root for him...win or lose. I've never felt any allegiance to any NBA team. It's funny ppl never had a problem with me rootin' for Lebron when he was in Cleveland.

With Messi - it's different. He became my favorite player because he played at Barca (only football club I've rooted for...since mid 90s) and he was Argentine. I've been rooting for Messi since 2006 when he was a little kid who was trying to make a name for himself.

Why I'm a Barca and Argentina fan?
My first faint memory of watching soccer is Maradona. Like V, I was 3-4 years old . I didn't know how great he was till I was older...but he was the little-est guy on the pitch and everyone would tackle him. He'd keep gettin back up. It was easy to relate for a 3-4 year old playing soccer with older cousins.

Barcelona is my favorite club because I went to Barca when I was around 10 and fell in love with everything about the city.

s**t, I don't think anybody needs to justify their reasons for liking this team or that. I like the 9ers because of a coffee mug I got when I was little before moving to the US.
