FIFA WORLD CUP 2014 THREAD

Was rioting for Argentina in this game with all present and former Benfica players in the game. Enzo Perez is a defensive midfielder for us (Benfica) had he partnered with Javier Macherano and had Di Maria on the wing it would have been a totally different game. Di Maria's speed would have eaten Howedes alive.
They should thank that Portugese cat who headbutted
zee german and getting a red card. After that ,it was germany clinching off the bat.

Last few things;
This was the first ever cup with social media power to the fullest.Twitter wasn't as huge 4 years ago. Vine clips,Instagram, memes, bookface made it even more attractive.

Soccer girls,hewly fuvk.

Fewer dives and flops this time around not counting Robben...imo

A shame U.S. or Mexico didn't make it to at least the semis. Soccer won't be huge in the U.S. until they get really far.The most played sport in the world.period.

...and that's all I have to say about that.

Two years....when the U.S. qualifies for the Gold Cup.

These bandwagoners only know of an event called the World Cup. They'll probably think people are watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when someone says the Gold Cup is on.

Dude, I like you, but when you try to dis soccer you sound like a moron

There's no chance these flavor of the month fans are going to give a s**t about soccer until the hype train comes rolling through again in 4 years. I'm obviously not talking about every fan, but you must be crazy if you can't see the size of that bandwagon. Moron? Bssh.

Obviously people are going to care more about soccer during the World Cup than during off years. And obviously some people were cheering for the US bc of 'merica, not cuz they like soccer. But you've been open that you are anti-soccer since the WC started. Just like jrg, boast, and a hoard of other dudes. You don't like soccer, that's fine. There are valid criticisms of the game, just like there are of football, basketball, and baseball. But posting in the World Cup thread that you are excited soccer is done is just childish. You wouldn't do the same in the Wrestling thread, even though you don't like wresting.

Yah world cup is over....

Now back to Bundesliga! (which just so happens to include a lot of now world champ players lol)
I don't mean to attack anyone personally (let it be known I'ma confirmed fan of the 3 posters who have been trolling the most against soccer) but why does people loving soccer in America and the sport growing here annoy you so much? And don't give the evasive "soccer isn't actually getting more popular, its just bandwagon once every 4 years" answer.

Deutschland!!!!!
So happy after 24 years of waiting! And kudos to the argentinian team, one heck of a fight. They had their opportunities and it would have been alright with me if they had won the cup.

dude you were sorely missed during this past month, I felt for you watching Portugal
The soccer fan in me is glad the best team won. I find some consolation in the fact that I predicted Germany winning it before it started (though I had them beating Spain). That's now two WC's in a row that I've predicted the winner.

As an Argentina fan ... I learned since I was young that in soccer when you miss out on scoring chances you'll most likely end up being scored on. Higuain, Messi, and to a certain extent Palacios missed CLEAR chances to score, maybe clearer than any chance Germany had all game INCLUDING the play of their goal. They played an exceptional game, different than the Argentina us fans are used to but beautiful in its own way. Maybe as good defense as I've seen an Argentina team display. It definitely hurts. 4ML is right that Messi and the core of this team will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in 2018, but reaching the finals is such a feat that Argentina will be lucky to get back to it.

I'm with Maradona and many others in that Messi didn't deserve to win player of the tournament. IMO that should had gone to Mueller, though I woulda give it to James had Colombia reached the semi's - same reason why I agree with Neuer over Navas for best goalkeeper. Neuer is the better overall player, but as far as goalkeeping Navas' performance in this cup was second to none.
Tough lost for Argentina. They had more chances at goal during regulation time. 3 legit chances. The Germans had about 2. I was rooting for the Germans cause I'm a fan of the style of soccer the Germans played. But really, it could easily be the Argentine holding up that trophy. There were too many chances the Argentine just couldn't cashed in. Their defense was fantastic and the offensive side was there all game.

Fantastic overall team by the Germans. No one stands out, maybe Mueller, but they are all capable of stepping up like Gotze.

Soccer fans claim not enough people in the US watch, then when they do during the world cup they get all pissed off...make up your minds

No, you can only be a soccer fan if you were born that way, and if the game was never advertised to you and you never cared about any of the biggest competitions in the sport.

Only then can you be a real soccer fan.

False.

I hated soccer growing up. Never played neither did my family. Started enjoying it as an adult and played indoor as well, fell in love with the game that way.
