Look at the level of players on England and Argentina, now look at who Donovan has played with. When Donovan is the only scoring threat with most of the chances, of course he's going to score. Messi and Rooney haven't needed to score every goal for their countries. They've had other players that are more than capable of scoring.
Terrible excuse. Argentina and England have both sucked in the World Cup with them on their roster. They have both done nothing to help their respective teams in the knockout rounds. Donovan made it to the Quarterfinals in 2002, maybe should have been the Semis if a handball on the line was actually called.
'06 Messi was hurt in the lead up to the World Cup and he was 18 years old.
Argentina won gold in 08 Olympics with Messi.
In '10 world cup he was nominated for the Golden Ball (doesn't sound like he was at fault for Argentina)
WTF does the meaningless 2008 Olympics have to do with anything in this thread? Who the f.uck even knows or cares who has won the Men's Soccer Olympics? I might as well bring up the USA's run in the 2009 Confederations Cup if you are bringing the Olympics up. My gosh you are backtracking hard. Here are some real matches that actually mattered and they disappeared.
2006 World Cup Quarters: Germany beats Argentina 1-1 (4-2 Pen)
2006 World Cup Quarters: Portugal beats England 0-0 (3-1 Pen)
2010 World Cup Rof16: Germany beats England 4-1
2010 World Cup Quarters: Germany beats Argentina 4-0
0 goals scored by either player in those 4 games when they needed it most.... just keep backtracking.
