fixed

Can you give me an example of when the US team had players with fake injuries carted off on a stretcher in a World Cup Final?

You have to lead a match before you can fake an injury. Hence why US doesn't have to fake injuries.

Just wait until Monday.

Funny considering all African Teams combined have not made it as far as the US in the World Cup.

Someone doesn't have a sense of humor.

Then what is your point? You compared their stats over 8-9 matches. I don't understand what you're trying to imply if not that.

Donovan is more clutch in the World Cup when it matters. Rooney and Messi suck in the clutch in the World Cup.

Comments like these make me wish we had an ignore button on the webzone. Donovan hasn't won a thing. Therefore he isn't clutch. Same argument you're using against Messi (a top 3 player in the world) and Rooney can easily be applied to Donovan. This is a World Cup thread, and since he's not playing in the world cup, why even bring him into the conversation?

Messi was playing a much deeper position in the last World Cup. Maradona (coach of Argentina at the time) decided that Messi will be better off getting attacks started than finishing them because they had high quality strikers like Higuain, Teves, and el Kun. He wasn't asked to be the primary goal-scorer for Argentina.

As far as Rooney is considered - I never thought very highly of him. He's always been inconsistent but he's still miles better than Donovan. England sucks because they don't play as a team...and Rooney is part of the problem. But, it has nothing to do with being clutch or whatever. He scored a great goal in Champions League Final at Wembley against Barca. That's a lot of pressure too. But...playing as a team matters - and that is where I do give credit to the US - they do a much better job of playing as a team than the Brits.

...and Argentina is a much better team than both. Messi has scored so many goals in big games for Barca and recently for Argentina - it's laughable to suggest that he isn't clutch or put him in the same sentence as Donovan.

I highly doubt he even watched the last WC...other than the Algeria vs. USA game.

Considering the comments he's made, that is more than likely very true.

Drogba effect. Still don't see why he wasn't starting.

I don't think Drogba can play 60-65 minutes anymore. I understand the decision to bring him as a super sub - but they gotta bring him in earlier. You can't wait till 60th minute to bring him in if you're behind. I'd sub him in at half if Ivory Coast is behind. If the game is tied or you're ahead by 1 goal - then you can wait till 60th minute.

Ivory Coast was threatening all game. Pretty good response from them after Honda scored a nice goal early on.
Anyway Sunday is almost here - can't wait for Argentina game!
I dont understand why guys bite into KTB's trap when his feels are clearly hurt by Donovan getting left out of the squad. His POV also seems to be narrow from the US side. Oh, and goals arent the only way to come through for your team, but surely you guys knew that ... I guess Drogba didn't affect today's game at all because he didnt score

In my defense - I was bored.

I've got a headache from watching the games today. I haven't watched this much TV since the end of Football season. Tomorrow is going to be fukin' awesome. I'm going to Paris on Monday - I've a feeling there is gonna be a little buzz about the WC there

Exactly. Must mean Pirlo was terrible also. I mean Italy completed the highest percent of passes in a World Cup since 1966. Pirlo became only the 12th player in a World Cup to complete over a 100 since 1966. Yet didn't score. Bum. But seriously, how great was he, the dummy to Marchisio, the passing, his control of the game, the free kick (though he missed off the crossbar) was a thing of beauty with that bend. But he didn't score. Not clutch lol.
