On May 29, a two-year-old girl was struck by a foul ball during a game between the Cubs and Astros in Houston. In the first update about the child's condition since then, an attorney representing her family revealed today that she suffered a fractured skull when she was struck by the ball.

Houston attorney Richard Mithoff's office provided the update in a news release, which also stated that the girl had brain contusions, subdural bleeding, and brain edema. The release also said that she is taking medication to prevent seizures.

Yeah, we need protective netting. Stuff this horrible shouldn't be happening.

No we dont. We need smarter parents who dont sit right in the line of fire with their small children. If you're elderly or have small kids, dont sit down the lines. Or watch out to protect them. Parents have to be held accountable for their kids' safety. There is explicit warnings everywhere about flying balls and bats in those sections.

Its ridiculous to net off the entirety of foul territory just because of freak accidents that should've been avoided to begin with.

You seriously think people are gonna have good enough reflexes to protect their kids or whoever when a ball is coming off a bat at 100 mph every time? People should be able to feel safe wherever they are in the stands. What is the netting gonna hurt? Oh some dips**t cant reach over and grab a ball? Thats what the ballboys are for. It wouldn't hurt the game or experience for the fans at all.

It ruins the view of the field. Its not MLB's job to protect every area of the stands. Baseball was fine for 140 years until people started looking at their phones and deciding the 3B line was a great place to sit your 3 year old. Ive seen people get smashed in the face by BP homers in the bleachers. Theres just a certain level of risk you have to weigh when attending a game.

I would never take my 3 year old to a game and sit in those sections. I dont need to demand that baseball net everything off so I can sit my child wherever. I just accept the fact that were not sitting there until hes older. Every generation before this one seemed to understand that concept of life.

Sometimes you have to protect people from themselves. We have plenty of ways that we do that already in our society.

Some child shouldnt pay the price bc their dumbass parent decided its okay to sit behind 3rd base.

I thought the same thing about the view, but it doesn't. I recently around home plate at a game and it doesn't change s**t. I am fine with netting it now.

The further down the line you go, the more the netting gets in the way. Sitting around homeplate and looking straight through the net is not the same thing as sitting down the third base line and turning your head 45 degrees or more to the right to look at the game.

Children shouldn't pay the price for anything their stupid parents' do, but you cant safeguard everything. What if a parent isn't paying attention and their kid falls down the steps? The kid shouldn't be put in that situation by their parents, but the stadium shouldn't be expected to prevent that either. People need to be accountable for their kids' safety.

This recent generation seems to be the first who is too selfish to know better, and is too distracted by their phones. This was never an issue in the previous 140 years, and there was less netting.
