Lucroy was never on the outside. He was inside the line the entire time. I have watched the play dozens of times and I cannot fathom how people believe Lucroys movement was the cause of this.

This. I don't think Jake is a dirty player first off, BUT I do think he just made a mistake here.

His correct move should have been to slide ass down and use his hand to reach around the outside/bottom of the plate.

Just an unfortunate situation overall.

Its just not how you slide in baseball. It was his intention to hit him. Even Bob Ryan whos the most old school baseball guy said it was dirty. The only other explanation i would accept if he said that he lost his balance and thats why he "slid" that way.

2 games is just dumb though. Might as well not even suspend him then. If they suspended him they mustve thought the hit was illegal, but then why 2 games?

My thing is that even if I was to concede that the play wasnt dirty and it was truly an accident, I still dont buy Marisnick's reasoning at all. I might even go as far as saying I believe he didnt mean to hurt him. But his explanation as to why he went inside is not something I can get behind.

Lucroy spent the entire play inside the baseline in front of the plate. You cant go headfirst directly at where the catcher currently is just because you think he is going to move.

LOL....He very clearly veered into Lucroy to knock his lights out. It looked like a Dashon Goldson tackle. The violence was definitely intended. Not to injure, but to knock the ball out. He should've gotten far more than 2 games.

While I dont think Marisnick's intent was to injure Lucroy I do believe that he made a really stupid play and should be suspended for 4 or 5 games. Lucroy was positioned on the inside of the plate and with the ball coming from RF the play was simply to slide on the outside of the plate. There was a clear path and that is what he should have taken. Anyone who doesnt see this clearly didnt watch the play or doesnt understand the rule.
