He smashed that ball harder than Prince Fielder's wife.

I'm not sure if you guys covered this, but HowTF is Harold Baines in the Hall of Fame?

Same way Frank Gore eventually will be.

Longevity+Consistent Production despite pretty much never being top 3 at his position.

because baseball makes silly decision on who should get in and found their selves running low on candidates now fringe guys are getting in.

Baines was a very good player for a long time. If Baines is a HOFer, I am fine with that but there are quite a few Baines type players that should go in as well. I am glad to see Smith go in as closers weren't getting enough props for what they brought to the teams. Not everyone can be Rivera but a lot of closers did that job well for a long time to the tune of 450+ saves.
If Baines is in Dale Murphy needs to be in too. Dont @ me

I heard someone say this on sportstalk yesterday and it really resonated with me:

"Someone has to be the worst player in the Hall of Fame."

I have gotten into many debates about HOF over the years with various sports. While I believe Baines should absolutely not be a Hall of Famer, I am not losing sleep over it. I think he was a nice player...someone any team would love to have...but that doesnt mean he should be recognized as one of the best players ever. I think the Veterans Committee needs to be done away with. They clearly hold grudges and play favorites.
I think the HOF loses some credibility when a guy like Baines is elected in. I always thought the HOF should be the best of the best. When you let Harold Baines in that is obviously not the case. Case in point..
  • All Star only 6 times in 22 years
  • Never top 5 in batting average
  • Only 2 times in top 10 in MVP voting (9th and 10th place)
  • Never top 10 in Homeruns (1 time in top 10 and never hit 30 homers)

Before the Vet committee put him in Baines didnt get higher than 6% of the vote. (75% is needed). Bottom line is that he was a nice player that played a long time but in no way is worthy of the HOF
John are you of the belief that Omar Vizquel should be a Hall of Famer? Based on what you said above, I am guessing no.
