Makes no sense if they are trying to trade Syndergaard. Stroman is under control only until 2020 and is 28, Thor is under control until 2023 and is 26. Why not NOT trade for Stroman and keep the younger cheaper Thor?

Well like the article says they got Stroman on the cheap while driving up the price for Thor. If they don't get what they want they could keep Thor and Stroman and trade Wheeler, who's a FA next season or trade Vargas?

That's one way of looking at it. They did make the World Series a few years back.
I would say every other top prospect never lives up to their potential and Stroman gives the Mets a deep rotation. they already have the young bats to really compete next season. Plus he's (Stroman) under control too.

I guess my point is, they're not competing this year. If they want to add to their rotation next year and into the future, why not just to get Gerrit Cole?
