I think he meant that people who hate on baseball for being boring usually aren't familiar with the interesting details of the game, such as when a catcher disagrees with a called pitch from the bench, but follows orders anyways.
Not a very good, or clear example, but I understood what he was trying to convey. A player disagreeing with a call his coach makes isn't unique to baseball though.

When I check the game stats I see pitcher stats with eras above zero and no runs were given up. How does that happen?
