To go along with why baseball is different in a not so good way...position players have pitched 78 innings this year so far. That's a new record and an 875% increase from 2011.
Starters average a full inning less work than in 2011 or beyond as well. Down to 5 innings from 6.
Back then, 39 starters threw 200 innings in a year. This year mlb is on pace for 15.
Jesus. These are all alarming.
For the first time this century relievers ERA is higher than starters
Also, even though some think the ball is "juiced" Mlb will set an all time low for singles, doubles and triples.
Oh and stolen bases.
Basically baseball is homers or strikes outs with bad pitching.
Tigers announcers talked about how it's a combo of many factors.
The ball is harder and the cover is smoother.
It's harder for pitchers to rough it up like they used to, not as much break on a curve ball. A harder smoother ball has less drag while flying through the air at 100 mph. Pitches are faster, hits are harder.
Per their sources avg per testing an MLB ball hit at the same bat speed can go 8-10 ft further than a non MLB ball. See the AAA league # of HR now using the MLB ball. No one can dispute it.
Also the bats are harder, higher launch speeds.
Major League baseballs have an average mass of 5.125 ounces, and a 90-mph fastball can leave the bat at 110 mph. Extrapolating Newton's second law of motion, Russell determined that, in a collision lasting less than one-thousandth of a second, the average pro swing imparts 4145 pounds of force to the ball.
Science, f**k yeah!
