Its not really that much of a hot take. If you believe in sabermetrics, both of them fall short. If you believe in counting or traditional stats, Yadi falls very short. I actually think based on the fact that he has an MVP, Posey has a much better case than Yadi does, but both would be on the outside looking in if their careers ended today.

Regardless, neither are the slam dunks that people think they are on the surface. The fact that people claim Yadi a 1st ballot HOF lock is absurd.

I think Yadi will eventually get in, but dont think he should.

Posey was the best catcher this decade from a combined offensive and defensive standpoint. He was the linchpin for 3 world champion teams, he won an MVP, was selected to 6 all star games, has won about every award baseball offers, and has been a model citizen and public baseball figure. There is a 100% chance Posey gets in.

I think Posey will probably get in also. But he certainly isnt a 100% guarantee. You wont find a single place that discusses HOF chances that gives Posey a 100% guarantee.

I dont want to get into an argument over this because I want Posey to get in obviously. But very few catchers make it, especially not catchers who become what Posey has at age 30.

Time will tell. He probably gets in eventually, but with the voters, you never know. Will be really interesting to see how the voters view Mauer.
