If he split that contract in half given his ability, he probably would could have made more. In 7 years that contract may look like a steal among the stars of the game. But its hard to imagine turning down a guaranteed 24 Mil a year for the next 14 years.

Also, if this is the new trend of signing decade long contracts, some club will end up f**ked when one of these dudes doesn't age well.

^Agreed with the last point. It seems the amount of these deals seem to grow faster than the teams payrolls.
Bobby Bonilla contract will be up 1 year after Tatis'
The more I think about this, the better the deal is for the Padres.
What a stupid contract. When has these long term contracts worked out? Very rarely.

When has a long term contract been given to a 22 year old? I think this is a great deal for both sides TBH.

On a related note, if I am Ronald Acuña, I am firing my agent immediately.

He's not proven enough to commit this kinda money on the guy. I agree with David Samson. Wait 4 years and then pay him.

This sets a bad foundation going forward. This cant be good for baseball at all. Most teams cant afford to do this type of contract, and now these young players are probably looking at getting this type of contract as well.

Sorry teams like the Rays, but if you cant pay me that much and give me security for life, im leaving in FA and some team thats loaded will.

Every MLB team can afford to give a contract like this. Some owners are just cheap.

$24M a season for an elite player is not a crazy contract.
