It isnt a debate.
ya as much as i dont like Bonds, he's the better player. nobody is placing Pujols in a top 5 list, but you will see Bonds in there.
Cheaters can never be top 5
It's not cheating if damn near everyone is doing it.
Yes it is still cheating and not damn near every player was cheating. There were a lot, but no where close to every damn player. And Bonds was clearly the better player and I'm far from a Bonds fan after he cheated.
Many former players have said they estimated over half of the league was using. It was a culture of "Everyone is doing it, so it must be ok" and "If I dont do it too, how can I keep up?" Plus the many fringe players who used because otherwise they weren't good enough to be in the big leagues. The league was complicit in everything that was going on. If Bud Selig is in the HOF, all the worthy PED guys whose reputation he rode there should be in too.
It was an era of baseball all itself. People just need to put it into their own context of legitimacy as a whole and stop crying about it. You can devalue a huge span of time involving thousands of players who used greenies too, but nobody does. People trying to erase history because they think they know exactly who can be dismissed is weird to me.
The actual estimate is far less than that actually. And that inflated number comes from the people who used so they don't seem so bad.
I agree that the league was complicit but it doesn't mean it wasn't cheating.
I agree Bud Selig profited off it and made the HOF off the cheaters backs...same as people like LaRussa. But its still cheating. And I also agree because of that, those players should be in the HOF. I was adamant they shouldn't be until the let the commish and the managers in who let it happen.
Nobody is trying to erase baseball history. But the story should be told properly.
Congress passed the Anabolic Steroid Act in 1990. So the notion it wasn't illegal is stupid. I was tested for it in High School or college in the early 1990's. Tax evasion wasn't specifically listed as a banned act for baseball but every player knows if they do it, they face jail time.
