That is the same thing I said, but somehow its being spun like I had some hot take that Ohtani would be a bust.
All because DC can't handle someone questioning a player his team signed. Still trying to bring it up in hindsight 4 years later.

There are no scouting reports for Ohtani against Major League hitters. The point is, he won't be throwing 99-100 very often.

IMO he's going to be a top tier pitcher, but wont be hitting much at all in 2-3 years. Its just too hard to maintain a swing at the same time as youre keeping your pitching mechanics in tune. Since he has the better potential as a pitcher, he'll focus on that exclusively.
If he wanted to hit he should've signed with an NL team. Then he could at least play the Bumgarner role as s full time pitcher and rake the days he's pitching. If he has to abandon playing DH at some point to focus on pitching, he'll get stuck not being able to hit at all.
You weren't questioning anything, you made definitive predictions.
Right, but that was assuming he was going to be healthy. He has barely pitched because of all his injury issues. Only 79.0 innings pitched across 4 years. He has been focused on hitting almost exclusively so far. My entire point was that I wasn't sure he could maintain BOTH hitting and pitching successfully for an extended period of time. Its incredibly hard to maintain pitching mechanics and a good swing because both take a full time effort.
Has he been able to do both successfully in short stints? Yes. Big props to him. But I'm talking long term. Can Ohtani be an elite pitcher AND hitter at the same time for an entire season? For two seasons? That was the basis of my skepticism, which is a completely valid concern.
