That's not true. You gotta market your stars to general audiences to bring people in. They need a younger fanbase, that's not gonna happen just by playing the same game as always. Baseball isn't as relevant nowadays as it used to be. NASCAR is having the same issue with the most popular driver in the sport being one of the most private drivers in the garage. Both sports are struggling in today's market because they don't have the same marketable guys like you had in the 90s and 2000s.
while I agree with you on marketing players, it doesnt have to be Trout. My point on Trout is you just dont get to see him and he's amazing. And its because the Angels dont win. If he was on the Dodgers or some other team that is always on TV, in the playoffs, the WS, people would be seeing him on display. People watch the post season and national games, but baseball fans are very regional. No f**king way I am watching a Phillies game just because my team isnt playing. People watch netflix.
The problem you are describing has been around for a while. They need to do a better job of highlighting all the games stars. Make them the face like the NBA does. Not just a select few. They are starting to do it with guys like Judge, etc. That and allowing a little more showboating and younger fans will watch.
