Id love to have Chapman and all, but a few things worry me.

First off, he wont be cheap. Do we want to give up top prospects for a RP who's best attribute is his velocity, which will likely decrease over time?

Second, he can have control issues at time. There is nothing more stressful in baseball than a closer with control issues. No hitter can hit 103+, but if he loses the strike zone, it wont matter.

Also, hes not playoff tested. The Giants pen coming up big under pressure is a huge reason weve won 3 titles. What will he do with the game AND the season on the line?

All that said, if he comes at a reasonable price, im all in. Hes one of the best closers in baseball, and Casilla needs to go back to his old role. The Padres got Kimbrel for a decent price, so maybe Chapmans market wont be as expensive as we think.
Anything could happen, but I certainly don't see Chapman being traded for anything less than at least 1 top prospect (and change, of course).

How would you rank our current top 10 prospects? Anyone besides Beede and Bickford that you think will end up on the top 100?

Agreed. Cincy will get a lot for Chapman. I could see Houston going for it and trading Appel and other prospects. They need a proven closer . Toronto could make a deal of Daniel Norris, Dalton Pompey and others. He wont come cheap.

Highly doubtful for next years top 100 although Arroyo could possibly sneak in towards the back end.

1. Christian Arroyo, SS
2. Tyler Beede, SP
3. Phil Bickford, SP
4. Mac Williamson, OF
5. Adalberto Mejia, SP
6. Lucius Fox, SS/OF
7. Aramis Garcia, C
8. Keury Mella, SP
9. Chase Johnson, SP
10. Jalen Miller, SS/2nd

I think Arroyo is definitely a top 100 prospect though Beede will have to finish strong to get on that list (and I'm confident he will). Bickford should be there next year after a full season of low-A and Garcia could break through as well as he's finally starting to hit like he was projected.
We just signed Everth Cabrera to a minor league deal. Never liked that fernet.

yes please!

Going to cost too much and isn't really what the team is missing to put it over the top right now. Would be dumb to trade for him unless they get him for a next to nothing which obviously isn't going to happen.

It definitely won't be cheap, but Chapman does have an extra year remaining on his deal which means he'll be available to pitch in our annual even-year run for a world title (thinking beyond this year). To get him, we'd have to give up one of our top prospects and a few mid-level guys, but to get a closer of his caliber on this team would be worth it.

wow well worth it, especially if he has an extra yr! I would do it. You are getting one of the most dominate Left hand pitchers in the game.

How do you know he is well worth it before knowing on what you would have to give up? For example, there is no way I would give up Beede and Arroyo for a year and 2 months of Chapman.

what if you could sign him to a long term deal? But personally I don't want to give up Beede especially hearing that he is the most ready to come up next

Some people have Mejia #1 so I can totally see that. Like Beede, he's not getting many swings and misses in AA to warrant top consideration for me, but the potential is definitely there. Arroyo just turned 20 in May and he's tearing up a high-A league where the average age is 22-23...this kid is a very special hitter who drives the ball with authority all over the field. If he can somehow stay at SS, that's tremendous value right there. I suspect though that they'll move him to 2nd or possibly 3rd, with a move to LF being a strong possibility too.

Think a younger version of Craig Biggio when he played 2nd.

I like the idea of moving Crawdawg to 3rd but maybe thats over thinking things.

If somehow Duffy comes crashing down to earth, that's not a terrible move to make. I just see Duffy getting better and better though so I'm not sure we'll have an opening at 3rd anytime soon.

Move Duff to OF with the ability to play all 4 IF spots... play him wherever we need.
