The San Francisco Giants Thread

It would be cool to have Chapman as closer. But to me, closer isn't the biggest need of this team, and what they would have to give up to get him wouldn't be worth it. The starting rotation is questionable as it is right now as we all know. The way they are currently set up is interesting. Very crowded starting rotation, with only a few (at best) quality starters that can be relied on more times than not. And 3 of those starters won't be here next season, and who knows what the future holds for Peavy. So, going into next season starting pitching is going to be a huge need for this team, so I think it would be really stupid to give up a starter who is regarded as one of the best prospects on the team, and who will be needed sooner than later to contribute to this team just to get a rental player that we don't really need that badly. Like others said, if we could get him for cheap, then hell yeah do it! But that's not gonna happen

Some people have Mejia #1 so I can totally see that. Like Beede, he's not getting many swings and misses in AA to warrant top consideration for me, but the potential is definitely there. Arroyo just turned 20 in May and he's tearing up a high-A league where the average age is 22-23...this kid is a very special hitter who drives the ball with authority all over the field. If he can somehow stay at SS, that's tremendous value right there. I suspect though that they'll move him to 2nd or possibly 3rd, with a move to LF being a strong possibility too.

I like the idea of moving Crawdawg to 3rd but maybe thats over thinking things.

If somehow Duffy comes crashing down to earth, that's not a terrible move to make. I just see Duffy getting better and better though so I'm not sure we'll have an opening at 3rd anytime soon.

Duffy does look like the real deal right now. Obviously the Giants wont keep Duffy, Craw, Panik, Arroyo, Fox, and Miller but it will be nice to have insurance and trade chips.

I really love how 3B was a huge weakness of this team coming into this season and with the awesome play of Mr. Doubleplay making it worse, and how Duffy stepped up big time to really solidify that position. We were all thinking how badly we needed a third baseman for the future yet the free agent market was pretty thin, and at least for right now it seems like Duffy is the answer for us at third for the present and future. If only the same thing could happen with a power hitting outfielder......

Moving Crawford to 3rd DOWN THE LINE isn't really a stupid idea, especially as he gets older and loses some of that range (assuming we extend him, of course). Moving an all-star SS to 3rd anytime soon while we already have Duffy IS pretty stupid, though...I'll give you that.

the idea was down the line - to make room for Arroyo.

Arroyo probably won't be a SS. Crawford is a great defensive SS. It would be 10 more years until Craw loses SS range (if that happens).

This we'll have to disagree on, as Craw will be 38 and surely will have lost a step way before then. Not saying he absolutely can't play SS at that age, but I don't see it. Agree with you on Arroyo who doesn't strike me as a legit SS...he's the PERFECT 2B prospect though.

Fantasy trades here, hilarious. None of them are going to happen.

Sabean/Evans will do what the Giants always do, and that is look for bargains in the trade market before July 31 and then scan the waiver list in August. You won't see a Wheeler type deal in-season anymore, that's not the way the organization operates.

Why change the successful formula?

Yah, that Wheeler trade really set that organization back.

Oh wait....

Lol, most people that I knew threw a massive temper tantrum about that trade... I was kind of neutral, I saw why they did it. It didn't work but it was coming off of the first championship.

We've only won two WS since then. But I know there are a lot of people who still think Sabean was a terrible GM, which is ridiculous really.
