I dont think the Giants will be looking for a starting corner outfielder. Aoki and Pence are going to start and there would be few that they could get right now for a decent price that would start ahead of them. Some would say SP but Peavy has been solid on his return back and it just seems unlikely to me that they would get a starter with Huddy, Vogey and Lincecum all in the mix.

Who could be replaced on this team..
Maxwell
Arias
Machi ( will be DFA in next couple of days)

If there is a deal I think it will be a small one for bench depth.

The Giants offense is among the top in the league this year in almost every category except for home runs. Aoki is coming back, Pence appears to be 100%, so in reality I think we will be fine offensively. Defense is solid, not a lot of range but they pick everything they get to. I think what we lack is a closer, and although I like Strickland in that role at some point I'm not sure this is the year.

So if I was in the Giants front office and looking to deal, that's where my focus would be.

In reality, I seriously doubt that they will make any kind of big splash via trade. They will more than likely look to the waiver wire in August...that's just the way the team operates.
San Jose Giants SP Chase Johnson just pitched a beautiful game tonight against the top offensive team in the Cal League. Johnson dominated Lancaster, giving up only 4 hits in 7 IP, 1 run on a HR and 1 BB while striking out 8. The 3rd round pick from the 2013 draft now leads SJ with 6 wins and his 2.87 ERA is 3rd best in the league.

You have to wonder. How was he bulking up while he was out with an injury?

lol Pence is rail thin. Hes cut like a gymnist, not a steroid user.

6'4" 220 lb

This. Pence is not rail thin. Dude is jacked.

LOL at rail thin as well. Duffy is rail thin. Johnny Lemaster was rail thin. Pence is anything but.

Bad wording. You know what I mean. Look at Ken Caminiti, then look at Pence. Hes not on steriods, hes just a fitness freak.

Dude no one thinks he's on roids. It was a joke lol. And POG is rarely serious.

Do you project him as a top tier starter or a bottom of the rotation guy?

My wife, definitely a Pence fan, said on his first or second day back from DL he looked like he'd gained 10 lbs of solid muscle....he'd just homered and the camera followed him through the dugout, and he didn't look like the same guy as before. Much thicker across the back and neck. Maybe he got a smaller uniform! If it was 2000, would bet roids. Don't see Hunter doing that. Did he just hit the weights with all that time off...but with a hurt arm? He's definitely gained some good muscle since last year, but if he's really 6'4", he's gotta weigh 235.

He is 23 years old and still in A ball. Impossible to say he is a top tier starter until he can do something at AA ball against better competition. MLB had him as the Giants #21 prospect

Johnson is interesting in that he wasn't a starter in college; was mostly a reliever and a seldom-used one at that (issues with his coach) so this is only his second full season as a starter. The stuff is definitely there though which is why the Giants drafted him so high...92-94 on average and can touch 96 (reports of him throwing 97 in college as a reliever) with a nice slider and a developing change-up. His stuff is not quite as explosive as his teammate Keury Mella's, but he's not far behind.

Age-wise, it's fair to say that he's a year behind schedule but mostly because he needed a full season in low-A to build up his arm strength as a starter.

I wouldn't be shocked if he's in most top ten prospect lists heading into next year, and solid year at Richmond could put him in the top 5. If all goes well, he projects as a #4-5 type of starter (stuff reminds me of Vogey's on a good day) with a floor of a solid RP.

Ken Rosenthal article.......

GREINKE'S NEXT TEAM: THEGIANTS?

If any team is the favorite to awardZack Greinke his next contract, it's the Dodgers. Greinke in fact, might only opt out of his deal at the end of the season to negotiate a higher guarantee with management, which currently owes him $71 million over the next three years.

Then again, Greinke turns 32 on Oct. 21 — and even though he is precisely the type of pitcher who should age well, the data-driven Dodgers might be reluctant to splurge on him.

In which case, why not the Giants?

Nearly $50 million is coming off the Giants' payroll at the end of the season, if you combine the salaries of Tim Lincecum, Tim Hudson, Marco Scutaro,Jeremy Affeldt, Ryan Vogelsong and Casey McGehee.

The Giants might want to retain one or two of those players, but they should have plenty of flexibility, even with other salaries rising. Greinke surely will want to remain with a competitive team. With the Giants, as with the Dodgers, he could operate in the shadow of an ace, though Madison Bumgarner is notClayton Kershaw.

One other thing: Greinke recently told USA Today that he admired the Giants players and couldn't decide whether to root for San Francisco or his original team, Kansas City, in last year's World Series.

We'll have our choice or greinke, price or Zimmerman

Yeah, he said he was pulling for SF because he sees the Giants a lot, and thinks theyre a good group of dudes.

Probably a combo of the Giants having classy players, and Greinke feeling slighted by the Royals.

I would LOVE to steal Greinke from the Dodgers. Id take him over Price or Zimmermann.

LF, right?

CF if anything. Maybin or Parra. Pagan is looking more and more like a 4th OF.

But, its possible that the Giants like the offensive roster they have, and dont want to mess with the lineup. They did win a WS with Pagan in CF.

For the first time since 2002, the Giants have an offense that doesnt need help.

If we make a trade, it will be for a late inning RP. Possibly a closer like Papelbon or Chapman. Casilla's days are numbers in the 9th imo.

If they get brave and finally decide to cut some dead weight among the SP, maybe they trade for rotation help. If Hudson really wants to help this team, he will say hes injured, and watch the rest of the season from the dugout on the DL. He just has no spot on this team anymore. We dont need 3 longmen in the pen.
