Would like to see that, Tomlinson taking Adrianza's spot once Panik returns. Hopefully, Tomlinson can show something while he's up to make this happen - this team can use quality IF depth. Is Tomlinson a homegrown Giants player or was he acquired sometime ago?
Tomlinson was an 11th round pick by the Giants in 2011.
Thanks Ghost. Great to hear about another homegrown player in Tomlinson. I wish I had the time to pay more attention to the talent in our minor league system...no matter what the "experts" say and have said over the years, the Giants have produced and currently do have some really good talent in their system.
There's definitely major league talent in our system, just clearly not the high-end talent that other teams have....but the talent that's there (specifically position players and relief arms) will continue to help this team chase titles for many years (IMO). Where we lack serious firepower is starting pitching. There's not really a top-of-the-rotation arm that I can see. Someone could develop like Bickford or maybe a Michael Santos, but they're both a long ways away and specifically those two are more likely to be mid-rotation guys.
Agreed on Crick - try to keep him a starter. What about Beede in a year or two being in the top third of the rotation? He's progressed well in a short period in the minors.
If Crick can keep from self-destructing as a starter, absolutely. You just hate to mess with a guy who just got right and ask him to change his routine, because whatever he's doing in relief is working.
WAY to short of a sample size to already change him to a reliever. It was fine to get his mind and mechanics back in place but a top of the line starter is just way more valuable than a relief pitcher. Short term.. fine keeping him relieving but they should not give up on him yet as a starter in my opinion.
