Cain still throws 92-93 so his doesn't make near as much sense. Other than he has no command on his breaking pitches anymore. I really don't know why he can't resume being a good starter. Not saying he can be a #1 anymore, but he doesn't even look like a number 5.

To be fair, this is only his 7th start after being out injured for a really long time. He hasnt had a full healthy season since 2013. There is probably still a lot of rust.

Never thought that Cain had a devastating put away pitch to be a #1 Ace like Lincecum. But you are right that he doesnt even look like a quality #5 now. He just looks so hittable.

He always was kind of a smoke and mirrors pitcher. Relied heavily on the fly ball, and somehow kept them in the park. His sabermetric predictors always said he was pretty lucky with contact. He relied on control to make up for his flat fastball. He just doesnt have the command right now, so hes either outside the zone, or tossing fat pitches.

Hopefully with more time he can get his mechanics sound again and get back in the vicinity of what he used to be.

All I know is, I wouldnt be surprised if we signed a big fish SP in the offseason, AS WELL as Mike Leake. Our rotation looks so old and sad now.

I see Cain's ceiling as a #3 starter if he can gain most of the form he had before. Not sure about the big fish. Really Price and Greinke are the only 2 guys who I would want to spend big big money on and truly doubt they would go after one of those guys AND Leake.

They were going to drop 155 on Lester, so I dont think 180-190 on Price or Greinke is out of the question. We need it bad.

As far as Leake, hes a very solid young pitcher that will likely get around 70 mil, which is kind of a bargain in todays market.

With a lot of cash coming off the books, and a glaring need at SP, I could see the Giants using the spoils of their success to bolster the rotation for the next 5 years.

Bumgarner
Price
Leake
Heston
Cain

What a difference that would make. Especially with Beede and/or Bickford jumping in down the road.
The lack of starting pitching will prevent us from getting in or even repeating if we get in unless Cain remembers how to pitch again. This team needs to sign at least 2 starters next year
