I guess the Cuban OF Tomas isn't ready.

Insane at the investment and then sending him down. I guess they envision him in RF and he's blocked by Trumbo right now (who was crushing it in ST). Their roster is a lot weaker than I thought originally.

Hes still a 24 year old prospect whos never seen Major League pitching. All this means is they want him to start the year at AAA and get his swing right. Its not really surprising at all.

He's also a horrible defender.

All I'm saying is if I'm signing someone to a $68.5 million deal I want that guy to come in and start for me right away. I don't disagree with you, I just assumed he was the most pro-ready guy of the bunch.

If you can't hit MLB pitching and can't defend, you're not worth $60M IMO... Im glad the Giants avoided this dude, he has bust written all overhim.

Rusney is in AAA right now... it happens but Im sure it wont be for long.I agree 100% with you though. If you're getting paid like a bonafide MLB Player, you need to at the very MINIMUM, be on the big league roster, let alone playing like one.

The price comes from the ability to pay for an elite prospect. Normally you have to have a top 3-5 pick to find a talent that good, and then you have to develop them for a few years and pray they dont bust. This was a shortcut to a near Major League ready hitting prospect that would probably rank top 5 right now.

Any time you get a 24 year old player, you have to realize they might not be able to come up right away and produce. Tomas is going to be a pain to face at Chase.

Based on what? Spring Training? Did you scout him?

I like how youve already determined he cant hit MLB pitching, hes likely a bust, and hes not worth 60 mil. All by opening day.

And btw, you can get coached up on D at age 24. Hes not a finished product.

Of course, but for me I'd like to assume if he was on a team desperate for power and not in immediate contention it's very possible he'd be learning on the fly. I don't think he's a bad signing considering he'll be a bargain if he's a 2+ WAR player over the next 5-6 years or so, I'm just slightly surprised but I guess it's better he gets regular ABs in the minors considering he obviously couldn't beat out Trumbo or Peralta. I have to imagine they'll unload Trumbo at some point this year if they think Tomas is ready.
Can't wait for the game to start so we can talk Giants

The reason I thought it was a strange signing for Arizona was that he was supposed to be so similar to Trumbo. Power guy with holes in his swing and will strike out a lot. I agree that they will unload Trumbo for pitching at some point.

Thats what you said, the D'backs want to send him to AAA to get his bat ready.

The bottom line is you're paying $68 mill for an unfinished prospect. We will see how good he is but yeah he didn't look great at during his first impressions this spring.

I watched more spring training games than you know.
