I honestly think its because pitchers throw a little harder and players are stronger. Not as much reaction time when that ball comes back. It doesn't have to be more than a fraction of a second to be the difference between now and back 10-20 years ago.

Without any Major injuries, the dude could have played until like 47 as a DH.
This BP thing should remind people that it's not just steroids that make you the beast he was. He's 51 and just won over Stanton .. Crazy. Wish there was a video
