Agreed. Panik could have a shot if he hits around.300 again. And so could Cueto.

Yep. There isnt the dominant 2B in the NL and Panik would have a better shot for sure than the Duff man. I put Pence on there more on a hunch that he comes back strong this year. Nothing at all to base this on though.

I just have a feeling that Matt Duffy is the real deal, and then some. Last year he had a breakout year that caught local attention. This year he could be poised to gain some national attention. I dont think its out of the question that he could be a top 2 NL 3B at the All-Star break. Bryant is going to have big pressure to take the next step. I wouldn't be shocked if he starts slow.

Either way, the Giants have about 12 guys that are good enough to end up in a spot to get an All-Star selection, so it should be a good year.

I like Duffy a lot but he isnt the player that Kris Bryant is. You can pretty much pencil in that Arenado and Bryant will be all stars. Maybe Duffy has a big year and gets in as a 3rd 3B. But to me its far more likely that Panik and Crawford make the team given the weakness at both 2B and SS in the league.

Right, but Duffy doesnt need to have the better career, just a better April, May, and June.

Youre right, Crawford does have a great shot. NL SS is so weak. If Seager, Russell, and Story dont have big breakout years, Crawford might be a mile ahead of Peralta and Segura.

Guess Pence was about to put the beatdown on Latos, Latos is such a douche.

fill me in bud !

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — It may only be a spring training game, but San Francisco Giants hitter Hunter Pence was not pleased when he was plunked by a pitch from the Chicago White Sox's Mat Latos.

In the bottom of the second, Latos threw a fastball high and inside to Pence that hit him on the left arm. Pence let Latos know how he felt about it on his way to first base.

"I didn't hear anything," said Latos, who was making his second start of the spring. "I was too busy dropping an F-bomb because I hit him."

Latos said the erratic pitch to Pence was because there was a big hole in the landing spot on the mound and he landed awkwardly.

"It's a terrible landing," he said after his four-inning outing. "Yes, I am trying to go in. That's one of the spots to pitch to (Pence), it's not a secret.

"I landed wrong, slipped. I ended up over this way and the ball ended on the other side.

"It's not what I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to start anything. I'm not trying to get anyone hurt in spring training. The last thing I want to do is put someone on the DL to start the season. The ball slipped."

Pence, 32, had a good reason to be upset.

Just over a year ago last spring he fractured his wrist when hit by a pitch from hard-throwing Chicago Cubs prospect Corey Black and missed the first six weeks of the season.
So that leaves an Opening Day roster of:

Catchers
Buster Posey
Trevor Brown

Infielders
Ehire Adrianza
Brandon Belt
Brandon Crawford
Matt Duffy
Joe Panik
Kelby Tomlinson

Outfielders
Gregor Blanco
Angel Pagan
Hunter Pence
Denard Span

Starting pitchers
Madison Bumgarner
Matt Cain
Johnny Cueto
Jake Peavy
Jeff Samardzija

Relievers
Santiago Casilla
Cory Gearrin
Chris Heston
George Kontos
Javier Lopez
Josh Osich
Sergio Romo
Hunter Strickland

He and Belt are absolutely f**king murdering the ball.

Happy, but more happy about Pence. We need him healthy and playing well to start. Belt is always been extremely streaky so I dont put much stock into it. He could open the year hitting .500 with 12 HRs, or hitting .172 with 0 HRs.

I am going to the Giants- Padres series again in San Diego. 3 night games in May plus 3 rounds of golf during the day. Cant wait.

For those that have never done a trip to see the Giants in SD it is well worth it. Petco is a great park and the gaslamp district near the stadium is a lot of fun with terrific restaurants. We went to a place right next to Petco that must have had 75% Giants fans with everyone wearing their jerseys. SO much fun.

Jeff Samardzija blasts Cubs and their wait 'til next year approach

"It was the easy thing to do," Samardzija told the outlet. "You can always sell the future, and people always buy it. It's a great way to rebuild, and I understand that.

"But as a veteran guy, it was becoming a joke.''

"I just got so sick of hearing about it,'' Samardzija said. "They had to do what they had to do, but as a professional, you always want to be competing, not hearing some rhetoric every year.

"There are certain things you don't forget.''

I agree. The Cubs as an organization and a fanbase have generated a tradition of losing. Feeling sorry for themselves, feeling cursed, etc. Its self-inflicted. When that kind of mentality permeates a culture, its a self-fulfilling prophecy.

"Were the Cubs. Were cursed. Lets wait and see how this unravels from here..."

They have a bright future, but we'll see how it translates with team chemistry. It wasnt long ago that Starlin Castro was their prized future stud, and we saw how that ended.

Susac is still recovering from injury, and Brown had a good spring.

Susac is still the main backup.

They've been labeled the "Lovable losers" for a reason.

Regarding Castro, I think he will do well in New York. I've always been a fan. He is having a solid spring. We'll see. Although, they have quite a few prospects who I think will pan out better compared to Starlin.

For Samardzija, I agree with him as well. This is his career. Some people are loyal to a specific team. Some people wanna win and don't wanna mess around with the "just wait, we have prospects" stuff. Especially coming from the Cubs who have been bad for a while.

He's developed a reputation for being immature, lazy, and resistant to authority. Im not sure he'll ever live up to the hype.

Brown had a nice spring and Susac is dealing with an injury. It makes sense for the time being. Susac will be back up at some point.
