Only fringe lunatics would put an asterisk on a GS championship, but if GS wins what a lot of media people will do is cite the injuries of their opponents, plus not facing the Spurs or Clippers, to argue against them even being considered one of the best teams of all time (I already saw Mike & Mike doing this before this series started). But that will just give our guys extra motivation for next year. If they do close this series out after going 67-15 in an extremely tough conferenc, with a 10 point win differential, and now 13-3 so far in the playoffs, it will have been one of the best seasons of all time, regardless of what the critics say.
Exactly. I know without a doubt some in the media will minimize a GS championship by citing those things. But the fact of the matter is, the Dubs didn't avoid the Spurs or Clippers. Neither one of those teams earned the right to play the Warriors. They lost their series. That's on them, not the Dubs. Spurs lost to Clips, Clips lost to Rockets, Rockets lost to Dubs. We didn't avoid anybody.
Like you said, the Dubs posted a historic 67-15 season. Just one of ten teams to do that. They had a historic margin-of-victory average, especially at home. They were the best team in the NBA all season long, and they were ranked #1 or 2 in damn near every offensive and defensive category. They are clearly the best team, and if they win the NBA finals, that would make it clear that there was nothing the Spurs, Clips, or a full Cavs squad could have done about it.
