Nathan Lyon takes 8/50 to bundle India out for 189 on day one of the second test. Lyon's figures are the second best ever in tests for an Australian spinner behind Arthur Mailey's 9/121 against England in 1921. Amazing performance.

f**k me drunk, we were in sight of 2-0 and threw it away. Only needed 187 and were flat out managing 112 trying to score quicker instead of sticking to the tactics that put us within reach of a famous win and grinding it out.

difficult target on a minefield pitch.
Can see India winning out now.

Pitch is no excuse for mine. I was unable to watch the match but from what I have seen and read, I conclude we failed to maintain the patience and application that put us in a position to win this game.
Unfortunately, I tend to agree with the second part though. I think this was our chance right here and we couldn't close the deal. Hopefully we're both wrong.

happens a lot out there though (and more often in general since the advent of T20), tough to play those spinners on a worn pitch with men swarming. At least you've got the 1 win though, Eng had them in trouble in their first test and played cautious for the draw, never got close to them again in the series.

Yeah mate, I know. Having reflected on it a bit more I reckon the fault lies fairly evenly between the batters and bowlers. If the latter had have restricted India to 30-40 less runs in their second bat and the former could have eked out another 30-40 runs in our last dig...
Oh well.

yeah need to keep the chase down to a 100 otherwise the wobbles kick in, you just don't see many batsmen these days who have the application for that sort of fight.

Actually, I've been impressed with young Matt Renshaw. Only 20 but bats like an old school test player. Doesn't get fazed if he's not scoring at a run a ball and happy to leave as many as he has to. I think he's going to be a very good player for a long time.

Yeah, but I read that he went over to the UK to play a bit and from that experience decided he was an Aussie at heart. Good enough for me!

Anyhow, the other new bloke Handscomb has been pretty impressive since getting his call up too.

haha , he's been there since he was 10 so that makes him an Aussie at this point.
Shaping up to be a decent Ashes this winter.

Yeah, sure is.
Also shaping up for a good finish to the India tour. So impressed with our day 5 survival to force the draw in the third test. Everything to play for for both teams in the final game should make for a cracking confrontation. C'mon Aussie!
