There would simply be no reason for Kevin Durant to leave OKC to go to the Lakers. He has a good situation now and can make the most money possible to stay with the Thunder. I think the only reason he goes anywhere is to win now (Warriors) or to go home (Washington). I can see DeRozan though if they give him a max deal.

Things don't always happen because they make the most sense. It made no sense for shaq to leave the Lakers when he had the better chance at more titles if he stayed in LA.

True but he went to a team with a young superstar in Wade and was at the point of no return with the Lakers given his relationship with Kobe and the fact that Phil was leaving. Given all that was going on it probably did make sense for him to leave and win a title elsewhere. He had nothing really left to prove with the Lakers and he had a chance to win a title in Miami.

Anything could happen obviously but I would be very surprised if Durant did go to the Lakers given all the alternatives he will have. If he wants the most money he stays with OKC. If he wants the best chance to win titles he goes to the Warriors. If he wants to play for his hometown like Lebron he goes to Washington.

Yeah, pretty much all of that seems right. I think they have a better chance at getting Westbrook. Maybe on a sign and trade for clarkson. Word is he really wants to come home and with Kobe retiring he'll be the new era hero for the Lakers.

Warriors will likely win another chip and Curry pretty much got the back-2-back MVP award. Will Durant join a better player at this stage of his career? Honestly, I don't think he will do that. If he wants to win badly - he can join Spurs or Clippers - where he'll be the main superstar and feel he can take down Curry and the Warriors.

I think Lakers make a lot of sense for Durant as well. Lakers will have loads of cap space to attract Durant and another top 5 FA + they have 3 good young players and a high draft pick. A year later - Westbrook can join.

With Lakers - he can be the face of the most iconic basketball team in the World with a lot of talent around him in a hurry. Just my thoughts.

If he wants to go somewhere to be the hero and franchise savior I think he would to go NY and combine with Carmelo and Porzingis way before he would go to LA. Closer to home, Knicks havent won a title in 43 years, and the likelihood of winning in the East is FAR greater than winning in LA.. Again, will he go for the most money, the best chance to win right away, the chance to go home, or the opportunity to be the King of the Big Apple.

time to move on? i know Mitch isn't into analytics and Lakers have been all time worse for 3 straight seasons now. so I can see why we might move on from him.

Yeah, if mitch goes it's most likely seen as just time to move on. I wouldn't be completely against the move, but they had better have a damn good plan if place if they do it. Some are speculating Jennie would bring phil back to the Lakers as president/GM/whatever. The belief is the knicks would grant his release if he wanted to move on.

RIP

I like Mitch too much to be into this. And don't we have West's son sitting in the wings as our GM-to-be?
Jeannie should give Jerry West a small % of the team and have him come in and right this ship. In my humble opinion, he would be the guy to attract the quality free agent that is so needed there. Now, as a Warriors fan I would hate to see that but this would be my approach if I owned the Lakers. I don't know if he would do it at this stage in his career and he does seem to really enjoy what he is doing with the Dubs. But, worth a shot perhaps.

Lakers are a classic example of corporate "brain drain." They've slowly shed all the great basketball minds that were part of the organization and are left with Byron Scott lol.

Instead of hanging on to guys like West, Phil or even young guys like Fisher and Luke, we've let them walk and kept the garbage like Byron and Madsen smh. I've been a Jim Buss defender all along, but you cant let basketball geniuses walk away.

Huh? They've had the same GM since 02. Luke took an assistant coach job and and Fish was hired as a HC to the first team he interviewed for. Which was also for his old coach as GM. I'll give you they f**ked up with Phil, but he hasn't shown he's even great as a GM.
Adrian Wojnarowski doesn't believe the Los Angeles Lakers are a legitimate potential free agent destination for Kevin Durant.

Wojnarowski's reporting has indicated the Golden State Warriors are the favorites for Durant should he decide to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder.Stephen A. Smith has reported about the possibility of the Lakers being in play for Durant.

"The Lakers are not front-runners for Kevin Durant, he wants to win a championship," said Wojnarowski. "If he leaves Oklahoma, he may end up staying there and I've written that. Golden State is a team that is worrisome for Oklahoma City -- that's a team that has Kevin Durant's attention. Kevin Durant wants to win a championship right away and either he wants to do that in Oklahoma City with the group they have or he's going to go somewhere where he can win a title right away.

"Kevin Durant doesn't care if they have the first pick, the second pick, third pick; no free agent cares. No free agent of his stature cares what draft pick a team has because that guy is not going to help them win championships in the next two or three years. And if Kevin Durant leaves Oklahoma, he wants to be ready to win a championship right away. He's at a point in his career where he cant wait two or three years and hope that it happens. I think part of his criteria, sources tell me, will be, 'Is that team good enough to beat Golden State with me on it? Or is it Golden State? Or can I stay in Oklahoma and continue to be able to do that and compete for a championship?

"Listen, I just don't think that the Lakers are a real significant factor for Kevin Durant."
