I haven't watched much of the team this year so a couple of questions fellas.
What player, past or present would you guys compare Russell to?
Is Randle improving?
What's Larry Nance's outlook?
Russell is a tough comparison. No one really jumps out.
He's a bigger guard that can see/shoot over guys, but isn't as athletic as his predecessors. My first instinct would be Ginobli or Penny, but he's probably less athletic while being a better shooter than those two. His body has caught up a bit over the course of the year. He definitely looks different today than it did at the beginning of the year so I'm hoping that continues and he's above average with his quickness in year 2.
To me Russell is alot like Harden, but leans more PG while Harden leans more SG. He's crafty getting to the rim instead of explosive and has a good set shot with a high release rather than a jump shot to get shots up over defenders. Once he gets consistent scoring options around him, his PG skills should shine through.
Randle has gotten alot better over the course of the year. He's pretty much a lock to be a solid starting PF, one of 9 guys averaging a double double i believe. He's shown flashes of all star caliber play as well. The ball seems to come off his palm rather than his finger tips, so he never gets friendly bounces off the rim so he'll really need to improve his release around the rim and on his jump shot to be a consistent all star level player.
Nance showed some really signs of being a contributor off the bench before he tweaked his ankle and lost some of his bounce. I'd guess he becomes a Taj Gibson type contributor on a playoff team. I have trouble seeing him being much better than that.
