MJ had good teams, Kobe had good teams. Can't compare the two though. One is the GOAT the other one is a top 10-15 guy all time. Nice ending to his career though, even though I wasn't a fan.

Growing up with Kobe Bryant was like growing up with a deadbeat dad or a Little League coach with rage issues or an unfortunate combination of the two. As you, slackjawed and terrified, would watch him stagger and scream around the court, you'd make a mental note: Don't be that guy. Don't be the guy who shouts "f****t" across a crowded stadium. Don't be the guy who doesn't invite friends or family to his wedding. Don't be the guy who trusts no one. The vexing part is, the worse Kobe behaved, the more his teammates and NBA officials and fans and people at large reviled and defended him. He made enablers of us all. In a way, you could say he united a nation.

I got MJ as the better player it's just that I thought MJ had certain physical advantages over Kobe whereas if I had to have some impossible shots made from deep I might have to go with Kobe. MJ was stronger more explosive and had more stamina and he played like a guy that went to college.Originally posted by GoldenJoe:Kobe was great maybe a top 10 player all time but I have to disagree with almost everything you said about comparing him to MJ. There is nothing Kobe did better than MJ, literally nothing although Kobe patterned his game after MJ in a lot of ways. Kobe wasn't more skilled with the basketball, when MJ ran point back in the late 80s because the Bulls needed it he averaged a triple double. Better passer and rebounder and was ferocious going to the rim in the early years.
Remember that hand checking was allowed, fouls were a lot harder and defenses were geared towards stopping him and they still couldn't. Kobe never shot over 50% in a season, not even close actually. Sorry but you can't even compare them. MJ was a way better shooter, Kobe is a great shot maker and makes very difficult shots but he's a volume scorer.
Really I'm just in the mood to show Kobe some love tonight but MJ was the better player. I saw his career as it happened and Kobe tried and that's why I respect him but he ain't reach Michael. I still think he's earned hi spot amongst the very best to do it nonetheless

IMO the major difference was that Kobe was doing an MJ impersonation, and MJ originated his own game. Jordan influenced the entire generation of NBA players after him. He had this unbelievable ability to drive to the basket and dunk over anyone, or pull any kind of crazy layup shot with 3 guys on top of him. Because of that, defenders had to play back to keep from getting beat, and he was such a great pull up shooter, he always got that open look. All he had to do was fake a drive, and he had his open shot.
Jordan instilled fear. Somehow, some way, you knew he was going to beat you. Its not a knock on Kobe, because there will never be another player like Jordan. To even get in the same area code is an accomplishment.

Wow. Kobe scoring 60 in his final game was story book s**t. Crazy. Impossible not to respect him.
He even took 50 shots. How very fitting.

Yup. He laid it out there and gave the fans one last hurrah and it resulted in a win vs what seemed a very motivated Jazz team
