You couldn't have.

Sure he could have.

"Ok coach, we're down 3 with a minute to go. What are we gonna do?"

"After the game, we're gonna have burritos for the post game meal. Maybe some rice with that. On the bus ride home, we'll have smoothies and cookies."

"Coach, we need a play to tie the game here."

"Tomorrow at the hotel we'll have Chinese food. Dim sum! Yeah, we'll have dim sum!"
Great hire if Kerr lets him take some plays.

But Waltons gotta turn the cultura around! Kudos to him.
Luke could've been a great NBA player if he had any kind of athleticism and he was one of the smartest players I've seen play the game. Phil always let him run the plays / triangle offense when he was playing, but too bad all he could do was pass and set screens. But that should translate into a good HC.

Kobe always said Luke could be the Phil Jackson. Mainly because they were average NBA players and have bad backs. lol
Young coach.
Young team.

This is going to be fun to watch. Finally.

Or it could be painful. Either way, I'll still watch!
This was after Byron was fired, but before Luke was hired. It's pretty good.

And holy s**t. Jeanie is 54 and still hot as f**k.
I can't stand the Lakers. That said, I think this was a great hire. If the ping pong ball drops in their favor this draft, and they can lure a solid free agent piece or two, this team could be a lot better than people are giving them credit for. I was hoping that Walton would bide his time and spend a couple more years as an asst, mainly as 'Kerr bad back' insurance. But I can't blame him at all for taking this job, and like I said I think they could turn the corner pretty fast. I think there are some exciting times ahead for the Laker faithful.

There's one reason and one reason only that Luke took this job. Because he is and always will be a Laker. This is the absolute dream job for him. There's no other reason for him to take this job. I feel fortunate that the hot young commodity wanted to be here. I just hope he can live up to the hype and make something out of this team. Even if it takes a couple years. Just get this ship moving in the right direction.
Use the Force, Luke !

May the 4th be with you
Oh snap.

That's a fair point. I don't know Ollie's Xs & Os well enough to combat that so I trust you. Even with that said, I think an assistant coach could be brought in that his Xs & Os heavy.

For me, talent>>>system. I also don't think anything can ever be as bad as the hogwash offense we ran last year. I can always be proven wrong, though lol.

I agree that talent trumps system on the offensive end, but on the defensive end a good system can be very effective. Thats not to say defensive talent isnt valuable, but a sound defensive systems can hide bad defenders by putting good defenders in positions to help.

Byron ran a crappy offensive system, but his defensive system seemed just as bad. I dont think the Lakers have a single good defender on the team so its a combination of bad talent and bad system, but watching good playoffs teams approach to standard offensive sets like high pick and rolls, makes it really clear how far behind the Lakers are in coaching.

Agreed. It's why I'm hoping Indiana fires Vogel and we bring him in as a piece of Luke's staff. Would be a great pickup for us.

Been hoping for this all year. Ship the damn pick and let's accelerate this rebuild already.

Stoney – I'm officially off the Cousins bandwagon. You and others have helped convince me of this. Additionally, I think if we went after Whiteside or Ezeli, that could be solid enough to fill in our hole at the 5 spot.

Ship the f**king pick. Wet dream is that for some reason Indiana just says eff it and rebuilds completely and we can get Paul George from them. More realistically? Jimmy Butler.

I read somewhere the Lakers are very interested in George, but there's no clue from the pacers if they want to move him. I feel like if they're trading the #1 or 2 pick they'd want more than George. Like a bonified superstar #1. We'll have to wait and see.
