Gotta get it fixed soon because that mindset is like a disease it will spread quickly and they are already dealing with the issue of Lebron possibly leaving in 2018. Bos on the other hand has key pieces for the future and draft picks...they I'm sure also realize that GS is probably taking it this year so they are planning to make a play for 2019 and beyond.
The Nets draft pick is probably the most valuable pick available for a trade in 2018 (but it's less valuable than picks owned by really bad teams who control their destiny and can choose to lose 70 games). The Nets may not finish with a top 5 pick because there are at least 10 teams with an incentive to tank this year who have no shot at making a run in the playoffs and the draft is top heavy. Any other team that trades their pick loses the incentive to lose.
That Nets pick is probably the most valuable asset the Cavs were ever going to get back in a trade, but it's not a guaranteed top 5 pick which is why the Celtics were willing to deal it. If Boston throws in an early 2nd round pick or late 1st, I think this trade still happens.
