Interesting fact I learned recently. State income tax must be paid to the state where the game is played. So all these Texas team athletes don't pay tax on games in Texas, but when they play CA teams in CA, they have to pay CA state tax. So they do get a break playing in Texas, but it's not the entire contract. Just games played in that state.
Kind of reminds me of the now extinct "poison pill" in the NFL. Writing a restricted f/a contract that says the players salary will become fully guaranteed if they play more than 2 games in the state of their current team. Then that team has to decline to match the offer because its too big of a risk. All while the new team wont ever qualify for that stipulation to kick in.
