Well, you guys are both wrong. "Much worse?" No. Sorry.

DRPM:
Kyrie 69th out of 80
IT 80th out of 80

They are both horrendous defenders. Period.

If anything you just confirmed what I said is correct which is IT worse defensively.

I love the trade for both teams for different reasons. Man I can't wait to see the Boston - Cleveland Eastern Conference Finals Series.

I would bet on Boston, what say you guys?

Irving was -2.30 while IT was -3.89 last season. That's a pretty big gap and I think the true gap between them defensively is bigger than that. Not to mention IT is 28 (more than 3 years older than Irving) and 5'9 and is only going to get worse defensively.

DRPM is a little inconsistent year to year (Thomas finished ahead of Irving in 2015-2016), but Thomas is consistently a very bad defender and teams pick on him defensively. He has a nice PER, but he's not even close to being a top 5 PG in the league.

And coming off a hip injury. The deal could still go south if he fails his physical I would think.

Monte Poole put it pretty well...

"So why is Boston better with Irving than with Thomas? Defense. Irving's poor defense is an upgrade over Thomas' atrocious defense."
Not going to be easy hiding Thomas on the defensive end. Best of luck if he has to switch on Klay or KD.

This no way Boston beating the Cavs this year. Actually when you think about it the Cavs got deeper with the addition of D. Rose, Crowder, and Jeff Green. . People forget Boston lost their best defender Bradley. Brown and Tatum are too young to make an impact against the Cavs.

Rose is near the bottom of the DRPM for PG's last year too. So, the Cavs could potentially have a line up of Rose, IT and Love at the same time? Throw in LeBron who takes a siesta on D nowadays and ... Wow. But they did get Crowder, so that is a plus.

Wow, I still can't believe Kyrie asked for a trade. The Cavs are no longer a threat w/o Kyrie.

You dont think a team that has Lebron, IT, Love, Thompson, and Crowder are no longer a threat? That is a huge LOL. Of course they are a threat and can easily win the East.

This was a nice trade for the Cavs primarily because of the Nets pick. They need to build for the future and getting that top 5 pick is big for the organization. Losing Irving hurts but they did well to get 2 very good players to step in right now and secure a pick for down the road.

They'll still be good, but not enough to challenge the Warriors.

Depends if they get D. Wade. Anthony Slater also tweeted a possibility for the Cavs to trade their 1st rd Brooklyn pick for Cousins if the Pelicans become seller during mid season. Only issue is their chemistry. So yeah they can challenge the Warriors if they get few more pieces.

No way Boston beats the Cavs? That I disagree with. Perhaps I over reacted saying I would favor Boston but they definitely have a solid shot at winning a series
Lebron been to 11teen straight Finals. Now he lost (KYRIE) And he Got IT. Yall think thats gona change??
