Source: Patrick McCaw won't sign Warriors offer sheet, will miss start of camp

The Warriors' waiting game with Patrick McCaw will keep going.
"The restricted free agent guard will not accept the Warriors' qualifying offer and will miss the start of training camp, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole.
The Warriors are holding their Media Day on Monday in Oakland and will begin camp Tuesday.
The Warriors extended a $1.74 million offer sheet to McCaw, a third-year pro, 12 weeks ago.

As NBC Sports Bay Area Warriors insider Monte Poole wrote Friday:
The lack of McCaw's signature on a contract was not a concern in July or August. But with summer coming to a close, his absence leaves the Warriors wondering if he still wants to explore other options while also forcing them to prepare to do the same.
This is not what the Warriors wanted, nor is it what McCaw needs.

McCaw has averaged 4 points per game in each of his two seasons with the Warriors, giving the two-time defending NBA champions depth at the guard spot.
The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears was first to report the news.

I think this year will be more tough than people imagine

Contract years + chasing a threepeat

No threepeat = no bueno

The season is gonna be a drag, there's gonna be so many games where it'll look like they're just waiting till the playoffs. They'll get re energized when boogie plays but at the end of the day I expect a few wtf moments during the season. This team is just looking forward to April, the thought of 3 peating and making history will get them going. It helps our main threat in the west regressed too

This will easily be the most talented Warriors team ever going for 4 titles in 5 years. Will they be bored at times? Of course but I don't think it will be a drag. A drag is watching Giants baseball or 49ers football.

"This season is going to be a drag." -Warriors fan

I literally cannot think of a sillier statement from a fellow Dubs fan. Like, you have to be kidding with that. Maybe you would like to go back to the days where Donyell Marshall and Larry Hughes were our best players?

People need to enjoy this FFS. It isnt going to last forever. This should be the time of our lives as basketball fans, yet some are bracing themselves for the season to be a drag. I am dumbfounded right now.
Relax I didn't mean a drag as in boring I meant it's gonna be boring for them when they get bored like they did last year and lost to teams they had no business to. I know it's gonna be fun as hell watching them and especially when boogie comes back. Calm down
Whats McCaw waiting on? Lol

Good question! I wonder how many players called their agents telling them they'd accept the 1.74 MM?

LeBron James joining Lakers affects Klay Thompson's future--By: Phillip Barnett | September 17, 2018 6:15 pm
"You are talking about guys for whom pecking order becomes really important," Mychal said during the Mason and Ireland radio show. "The perception of how people are going to look at you is important for these guys. If Klay came to L.A., which he should, then he knows he is going to slot in behind LeBron. But it is fine because he has done it before [for the Warriors], it is not a big deal.

"Kawhi is a top-five guy who is a Finals MVP. I know what the pitch is 'you come here, you win another title and in two or three years LeBron is going to be 35 years old and you will transition and become the guy.' But that doesn't mean Kawhi wants to go through that. But on the other hand, he might love the idea of being in LeBron's shadow. He doesn't have to do anything."

While Mychal may want his son to head down the I-5 to continue the family legacy in the forum blue and gold, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Thompson to leave the Warriors who can offer him more money and more years.
Even if Klay wanted to branch out and lead his own team, it's hard to imagine playing second-fiddle to James would be the most ideal move.
https://warriorswire.usatoday.com/2018/09/17/lebron-james-lakers-klay-thompson-warriors/

What i find more interesting is his dad's tune about him playing for the lakers.

Mychael is just talking out of both sides of his mouth. He has repeatedly said in interviews that Klay needs to stay here for his legacy, that Klay wants to stay here, and that he encourages Klay to stay here. Now all of a sudden "he should come to LA."?? Yeah no. Completely contradicts everything he has been saying to Bay Area media.

Exactly

I'm calm. I disagree with you even more after you tried to explain yourself.
The Warriors first exhibition game is Saturday Night. Its on NBA TV. If I was Myers I would tell McCaw and his agent that he either signs by then or they rescind his qualifying offer. Id rather use the final spot on the roster for someone who is hungry and wants to be here. If he hasnt gotten a much better offer by now I seriously doubt he will.
As Mike Dunleavy Jr. started to get nostalgic, he was reminded how much has changed since he donned a Golden State jersey. Up on the far wall were banners for the Warriors' 2015, 2017 and 2018 NBA titles. "There's a sense of accomplishment here now," said Dunleavy, whom Golden State recently hired as a pro scout. "When I was here, we were fighting an uphill battle trying to get past mediocrity."

DeMarcus Cousins to practice with team soon?

A day into Warriors training camp, DeMarcus Cousins is making solid progress in his rehab from a torn left Achilles tendon. "I don't think it will take too long before he takes part in practice," Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said Tuesday afternoon. "But for right now, it's important he gets his full workout with the training staff." The 6-foot-11 center, entering his eighth NBA season, will be re-evaluated by team trainers Oct. 22, which rules him out of the team's five preseason games and its first three regular-season games. Odds are, of course, that he'll miss more time.

He's got until midnight Sunday. The qualifying offer expires on October first.

The last few months I've been thinking he won't play until February. If he comes back by Christmas? Oh boy.
