the nfl should partner with the XFL as a minor league type thing. I mean we go from 53-90 in the offseason. No reason why at the very least 25 of the extra 37 players can't get some sort run in the XFL to gain some experience. Hell, they complain about when QB's go down how bad the product is. Give guys like Mullens and/or Beathard a chance to play in the XFL to gain some experience. If you partner with XFL you can have your understudies coach to teach them the things you would/will be teaching them when they get to camp.
Not only would it give your players a chance to get reps. They also could use this as a way to enhance the Rooney Rule. Give coaches of color more opportunities to be a head coach and/or call plays in this league. If they are already coordinators let them be head coaches in this league. If they re assistants give them more opportunities as a coordinator. Which in turn should enhance their chances in the NFL.
All the while the NFL would make more money. The bottom of barrell guys make more money. Fans could still root for their "teams"/"players".
Also in doing this, there really wouldn't be any need for mini-camps. Championship in April. Draft after championship in April/May. rookie minicamp a couple weeks after draft. Training camp in June as it is now.
So established guys get 4 months off(or longer if you don't make playoffs/Superbowl. End of roster guys gets extra reps then 2 months off.
To me it just makes too much sense.
The fact that so many NFL guys are commenting and you have Aikman live on the field today. I think NFL is doing a watch and see approach while slightly embracing the XFL product
