I'm surprised this is such a controversial opinion. It's something regularly discussed in hockey and both sides are acknowledged as having legitimate points
You guys seem overly sensitive that the sport isn't perfect

I asked my soccer buddy about it, who played competitively, and he doesn't like PKs. He suggests a goal in extra time count as golden goal
Is there a reason not to do that?

there's no shoot out in playoff hockey though, so nobody is discussing it there. and once again, you even posted it about it earlier, you can't have a soccer game that goes to multiple OTs, players would literally die...this isn't hockey, or football, or basketball, where you can make as many substitutions as you want.
and a golden goal in OT, can still lead to a 300 minute game if nobody scores...once again, players would die. how is this so hard to understand lmao.

You're laughing at a player for missing a penalty kick. I'm guessing you think it's easy otherwise why are you laughing? I'm confused. Why are you laughing if you don't think it's easy?
What? You never laugh at anything when an athlete fails? Every single pro athlete has a billion times more talent than me. I still laugh when they goof
...and you want to change the rules because someone goofed?
I'm not sure what you're saying anymore bc you've been over all the place.

Huh? Isn't this a forum? Where people post thoughts?
I apologize if the sincerity of my post confused you.

You want to change the rules because you think PKs are like a coin toss and not part of the game. Both of your reasons are wrong. They're nothing like coin tosses and are part of the game.
You prefer golden goal and want to know what's wrong with it? Soccer used to have golden goal but they changed that because most of the times - both teams would become ultra conservative and there were really boring overtime games. IIRC - pretty much everyone (from players to coaches to fans) agreed that getting rid of golden goal was a good idea.

Correct. The golden goal was removed after 6 years because neither team would press offensively in fear of giving up a goal and it ending. The silver goal was put in place that said if a goal was scored that the rest of that period would be played. They also removed that for similar reasons.
Mainly, its lack of subs that force the game to PKs.

Some of you don't get it.
They can't sub entire lines every 2 minutes while playing 60 mins total (hockey), can't do package subs every play and get 40 seconds after every 5-10 seconds of actual play while playing 60 mins total (football), don't get unlimited subs and a mandatory minimum of 8 timeouts plus 3 intermissions while playing 48 mins (basketball).
Soccer games are 90 minutes with one break in the middle.
Furthermore, according to motion tracking data, soccer players run a lot more. NBA players average 2.7 miles run per game (more than football). Soccer players in the World Cup can run upwards of 9 miles in the 90 minutes. That pushes to 12 miles after overtime.
This is why they can't do golden goal. Guys can't run a marathon.

What a glorious morning for the English lads... Football's comin' home!!
