I think what the ref saw was he was looking to go down from the start of them coming together. There is always jostling. The hand on the shoulder was completely blocked from both refs point of view.

You can not take down a player from behind in the box period, the only way it's not a foul is because the ref didn't have an angle to see it. Replay showed it well
