More reason for him to leave right?
Not unless you think he will be willing to sacrifice 50 million dollars to sign with another team. There is zero chance that Klay leaves if Lacob gives him a max deal.
It is $3M per year and he gains a ton more respect, will likely make All-NBA as a star on a team by himself.
Call me a homer, but I cant see a player leaving $50M on the table for the possibility of more respect.
It isn't $50M. That is only if he makes $0 in year 5 after the 4 year contract. Which won't happen. In fact maybe the salary cap goes up so much that he actually makes more in year 5 as a FA. It is $12M being left on the table in those 4 years.
Klay will be 34 years old when he would come up for a new contract and will have played a LOT of minutes given all the extra games that the Warriors play in the playoffs. Who knows if he will be playing at a level that he can command anywhere near what the 5th year of a max deal will give him now. Not to mention that he could get hurt and not be the same.
The smart thing, and the thing he will do is to sign a max deal with the Warriors. And how does he gain a ton of respect by leaving a great team that he has been a main cog in winning titles? I think he would lose respect if anything.
Klay is about rings and being happy. He isnt leaving.
