Who will win more games this year Sharks or Niners lol
I don't mind having Marleau back. I think he'll still fit well with Thornton. But, I worry that the coaching thinks the problem is execution vs. talent/scheme fit.

Execution does help to a point, but they can't be hyper aggressive and expect all dump n chase and pinching to consistently work. They've got to find out how they can best control the middle of the ice.
The team is a disaster. So badly hope Marleau can help somehow, despite his age.
0-4
Way too many goals given up by terrible passes that lead to 2-on-1s the other way.

Too early for that. If by 20 games we aren't better I think this gets serious consideration.

I fear we're gonna see a lot of Marleau and Goodrow playing key minutes.

Chekhovitch and Chmelevski don't just come in and take Goodrow/Melker's jobs . . .

Well, our AHL affiliate didn't do any better in their opener. Got absolutely hammered 5-0.

Brodzinski was cut to make room for Marleau. Gee, who'd have thought it would be better to have a legend with tons of experience and success and was WILLING to play for the vet minimum, over a trash 4th liner? I get that you have "roles" and stuff, but there's no reason we couldn't have found a spot for Patty sooner.

He is clearly better than some of the bottom-of-the-roster guys that aren't gonna be here long term. If neither player is gonna be here long term, you obviously pick the better one to be on the team.

Sharks forward lines at practice were:

Marleau - Couture - Meier
Kane - Hertl - Goodrow
Bergmann - Thornton - Labanc
Sorensen/Yurtaikin - Gambrell - Radil

Never should have let Pavelski go in my opinion. Maybe not the most talented player on the team but he was so important to the team's success over the years.

this team needed to get younger and faster. It might happen once we rebuild. Pavs was part of the problem these past few playoff runs. (IMO)

I have to disagree with that. I feel like he was crucial to our success in so many ways, but as we say, just differing opinions.

At the end of the day, we just didn't have the money to keep him. Maybe we could've cleared barely enough money by trading people, I don't know. So, sure, if that was the case, I can understand the idea that maybe we'd be better off since the younger guys haven't exactly stepped up.

But at least we have Marleau to help with his experience and skill, which is vastly superior still to a fair amount of the players currently on the roster. I'm glad Brodzinski is gone. I hope we're not done getting rid of underperformers.

I said it last year and I'll say it again, Dillon needs to go. He can be replaced. I get that he's Karlsson's linemate, but the dude just isn't that good. He has so many egregious "WTF are you thinking?" plays, I just can't with this guy. Yeah, Burns messes up too, but at least he has the athleticism to recover and brings a lot more on offense.

If I'm DW, I try to find a way to get rid of Dillon's $3.2 million salary, Dell's, $1.9 million, and Melker's $2 million. That's at least $7 million in space we can open up and replace with cheaper guys who can do just as well.

He was a cap casualty. The finances were the biggest reason. And we had to retain younger and more important pieces. Love Pavs, but it was time to move on.
Dude just wanted to come home
