I'm okay with it. A 30 year old Hertl will be on the decline by the time we're finished with this rebuild.

I don't know why people are upset. The Sharks are not contending for the next 3 anyways. They need to keep making their roster as bad as possible so they can finish with a top 2 pick for each of the next 3 years. By theThe time the Sharks are good again, Hertl will be in his mid 30's and probally a 3rd liner.

Trading Hertl is fine, but it's giving up the two thirds + for a high first rounder IMO that's kinda whack.
We retained a portion of his salary, that should have been enough

It's a major WTF. You don't trade a top player like this to a rival. It doesn't matter if we wouldn't be competing. It's still not a good deal.
We better have a real good plan toward working to be contenders again cause I sure don't see it.

Hertl did have a NMC, unsure if other deals were out there, or if Vegas was the only one he was approached about and waived.
I don't mind trading Hertl. You dont really retain players that can impact your draft positions during a rebuild (i.e. win games), unless your rebuild is about to be over. We aren't close yet. It's the deal itself I kinda have an issue with.
IMO We are so far from relevancy, we don't have a rival right now.

So I guess we got back Vegas' 2023 1st Rounder, David Edstrom, 19, a big forward, to pair with fellow swede William Eklund, who projects to be a 1st or 2nd liner and we got a 2025 1st round pick as well.
Not great but not a bad return either and if Edstrom turns out to be a very good player then I like the trade. Just hate the idea of Hertl in a knights uni.
What makes this deal not as good is the Sharks also sent Vegas two third round picks... cmon bruh

I'd trade my grandma if the price was right and got a good pick
