Burns was better as a forward in my opinion. Making a flashy play on defense because you had to scramble back after being caught in a terrible position or making a bonehead play, IS NOT being a good defenseman.

As mad as we all are at Martin Jones, the offense at the same time is pathetic.

Different year, same old Sharks. What a joke.
I don't think this is a case of same ol sharks.
They are very badly injured. It's unfortunate.

I'm officially on the Start Josef Korenar bandwagon, because why the hell not? See what this kid can do.

My guess is 35%. A team like NYR has enough cap, young players, and proximity to Ottawa to make a serious run at him. Any other teams with cap space and an open playing style would be contenders too. The chance the Sharks have is that they can offer him the biggest contract. I read an article from when he was still in OTT. He said he planned to get his full market value when he hits FA. So, if business comes first, maybe the Sharks have a chance.
Sharks have a couple "promising" guys with the Barracudas. With the Sharks' farm reputation, not sure if they will be playoff caliber starters. Unless Wilson swings a trade, their best option is probably to build a better system around Jones.

I've noticed similar things. I think it's an org shift. It's as if the org told both goalies to find and attack puck instead of staying in the crease and playing the angles. IMO it's the same across the board. Goalies being coached to be aggressive. Defensemen coached to throw stretch passes and hold the puck at the blue line. Forwards coached to cherry pick to start the rush and always go low to high.
IMO the Sharks since 2015 have been like Harbaalke era.
Phase 1: Inherit a good roster. Emphasize the short game and solid defense. Find quick success, but lose in the playoffs to teams that can make the splash plays.
Phase 2: Make tweaks to compensate for lack of splash plays. Still lose in playoffs.
Phase 3: Realize that major changes are needed. Ditch the short game and go deep. Offense becomes very mistake prone and streaky.
Phase 4: Going deep not enough. Increase aggressiveness and pace. Defense suffers.
I think DeBoer should be gone, even if they win out this year. IMO he lost the locker room, maybe even last season. It's a bad look for the HC when a HOF player needs to play the enforcer role to stick up for teammates.
But, the challenge is how to move forward. It's a veteran roster with slower team speed that could be in contention. Not sure if there's another Cup-winning coach like Trotz or Q available. Maybe try to coax Darryl Sutter out of retirement and try to poach Marco Sturm as an assistant.

Proud of this team for not going into full tank mode despite failing in playoffs every year

I think we re-sign EK65. I would prefer that.
I think that has to coincide with either trading Burns or converting him to a Forward full time. I would prefer to trade him and get a young/promising defensive D man in return.
