What are these controversial things about Kapler?
According to the ringer plenty apparently:

The Phillies took a gamble on Kapler and stayed in the pot longer than was tenable. Even after the 2018 team went from first place on August 12 to 10 games out by season's end, a stupefying collapse that coincided with a rapidly toxifying clubhouse atmosphere. Even after reports surfaced last winter that during Kapler's time as the Dodgers' farm director, he'd failed to report accounts of sexual assault and harassment by his players to MLB or police, and that he was being investigated for violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act committed during his time in L.A. These revelations should have been troubling enough to sink even an established and successful manager, and yet the Phillies stood by him.

Sounds like a 💩, I hope they stay far away from him
Apparently we are also looking at Cubs Assistant GM Scott Harris.

The Giants' search for a general manager has been a quiet one thus far, due in no small part to the fact that president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi is already fixed at the top of the ops hierarchy. (Indeed, he has operated without a GM since his hiring.) But it's still an important executive position that offers the San Francisco organization an angle to bring aboard some new talent.

Among the candidates for the Giants GM post is Scott Harris, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). Harris currently serves as an assistant GM with the Cubs — an organization that has quite a few well-titled cooks in the kitchen. That's not to diminish Harris. The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma profiled him last year in a subscription post, painting him as a hard-working and intelligent rising star in the game.

It seems there are others also under consideration, though identities have yet to be reported. Kerry Crowley of the Mercury News recently ran down some potential candidates. In particular, he noted that A's GM Billy Owens — Zaidi's former colleague — has interest in the opening. Owens was said to be under consideration this time last year, but Zaidi decided to go without a clear #2 in his first season at the helm.

It is still not evident what kind of timeline the process will take, or really where it stands at the moment. It seems reasonable to presume that the Giants (and the teams currently employing the candidates) will want to resolve things in relatively short order with the offseason upon us.

SF is very PR conscious. If this move alienates fans, ownership isn't going to sign off on it.
Now John Shea is reporting that Kapler, Espada, and Quatraro are the finalists, not Grifol.
They're delaying the Kapler announcement cause he put on some weight and needs to cut so he can take shirtless photos when he's announced as the Giants new manager.

Kerry Crowley thinks Farhan is taking his time to do more background work on Espada and Quatraro. In the end I still think Kapler will be the choice.

If they pick Kapler 90% of the fanbase will be pissed.

One thing that ive been skeptical about with Farhan is his apparent bias towards players/coaches that he's worked with before.

I dont have any reason other than a gut feeling that it will be Espada.

Same. Ive felt that way since Espada was named a candidate. It just feels like the right hire for some reason. It sounds like all things being equal, Farhan prefers Kapler, but hes too high risk.

This hire will probably define Farhan's tenure here, and Kapler just has too many cons. He did such a poor job in Philly.
So Kapler is cool with rape.... great. He does have that American Psycho vibe going on.

I don't see it being Kapler.

Oh man a rough go to the start of the off-season if indeed Kapler is the pick.
