Nobody was advocating that we dont trade him and then let him leave in free agency. Obviously the people who didn't want him to get dealt, such as myself, wanted to give him and extension.
There is also a delusion that we passed up some premium prospects to keep him around for the 2nd half. Farhan was going to deal him if a team met the asking price, and nobody did. Its pretty obvious the Braves are kickoff themselves over not offering more, based on how their season ended.
I always thought it made a lot more sense to trade Bum because the return was going to be a lot more than a compensation pick. In retrospect the worst thing that happened was that great month. Without that I truly believe Zaidi would have traded Bum.
