Kapler has been an MLB manager for two years. Can anyone tell us what he is good at?
His results in Philly got him canned.

I heard he was way too lax with the players, and let them do whatever, and that he was a lot closer with management than he was the team.
While people lose their minds over this hiring this still comes down to Zaidi and Harris adding a lot more (Draft,International signings)talent to the farm system. That's the big picture.

It wasn't his results that got him fired. He clashed with some key personalities there. Listening to Frandsen yesterday seemed like som characters with big egos. A lot of people in the Phillies organization apparently have a bunch of good things to say.
He did have a brutal start to his career in 18. Mos managed his pen a bunch but to his defense they had a lot of key injuries to the pen and his hand was forced.

in fairness, he inherited a team that was poop and made them a .500 team both years if that helps.

Even if the talent sucks, I will be watching how he manages and how he manages his pitchers. He made some stupid sabermetric decisions with his SPs in Philly that totally backfired. I don't give two f**ks what the data shows, when a dude is throwing a gem through 4-5 innings, you better not pull him until he's in trouble.
Those are the mistakes Kapler better have learned from.

Ann Killion is gonna have a field day with this hire while still championing that abusive criminal Hope Solo.
Oh, looks like I'm late to the party on that. I don't expect her to yield anytime soon.

Will Smith's agent, Jeff Berry of CAA, effectively used the qualifying offer as leverage, telling interested teams he wanted a deal by today's deadline or Smith would accept the one-year, $17.8M offer from #SFGiants. In the end, the #Braves bit.

A great giant. Will Smith was so nasty. Sad to see him go. At least we get a decent comp pick in return.
With the Braves sign both Smith and Bum?

Looks like we will be getting a 3rd-ish round pick in return. Makes that hot streak we went on even more frustrating. We definitely could have gotten better than 3rd round value for Smith if we moved him at the trade deadline.

Originally posted by Garce:I agree totally with Steve and I said that for both Smith and Bum. Look at what we got for Pomeranz . Some in here thought the Giants would get 1st rd compensation but that was never the case. At best the Giants will get a pick in the late 70s which is not close to what they would have received for Will Smith.
