Kapler has been an MLB manager for two years. Can anyone tell us what he is good at?
His results in Philly got him canned.

It wasn't his results that got him fired. He clashed with some key personalities there. Listening to Frandsen yesterday seemed like som characters with big egos. A lot of people in the Phillies organization apparently have a bunch of good things to say.
He did have a brutal start to his career in 18. Mos managed his pen a bunch but to his defense they had a lot of key injuries to the pen and his hand was forced.

What is he good at?

They add Bryce Harper and he adds one win and still no winning record.

Most managers struggle in their first jobs. Joe Torre was fired from 3 organizations and had only 5 winning seasons in 15 years before landing with the Yankees. Other managers hired this year, including Maddon, Girardi, and Matheny have all been fired.

Maybe Kapler will fail with the Giants but whining about the hire before he has even managed one game with the Giants is nuts in my opinion.
AJ Hinch as well.

Terry Francona was fired by the Phillies too.

It appears the best thing anyone else can say about him is that sometimes good managers get fired. That says a lot.

Hes actually gotten a bunch of endorsements from players and coaches. Bochy and Posey both gave the thumbs up, so that's good enough for me to give him a fair shot.

It sucks. Simple.

We are gonna lose Bumgarner. No way he will want to play for the guy who pulled his ace after 5 innings of shutout ball because his analytics told him it was the right move. Just sucks all the way around.

And I dont buy the bad PR stuff. Would Zaidi and the Giants have upset the fans by trading Bum? Sure, some. Will people abandon being fans of the team? No. So who cares if the optics look bad. It only would have benefit the organization in the long run.

That was literally his first game as manager 2 years ago. He said hes learned a lot since then and has changed his outlook on stuff like that.

Posey and Bochy both gave strong endorsements for Kapler. Bum would trust their opinion over anything else. Regardless it will come down to money.

Jas he become good at making pitching changes since then?

I dont know. But managing the bullpen is the hardest part about being a manager, and it requires experience to get good at. Bochy wasn't good at it his first few years in SD either.

Meh
So far...
Some managers who get fired turn out to be good and some who are bad at making pitching changes get better.

Not ringing endorsements.

What do you think of Zaidi? Are you happy with the job he has done so far? Do you think he is the right guy to turn the Giants around?

If the answers to these questions are yes then dont you think it makes sense to trust him with this decision especially since he knows Kapler well and you dont?

I am unsure about Zaidi. He is unproven so I am taking it as it comes.

Kapler better be the right guy to get this team in contention in the next 2-3 seasons.

Someone who was not a castoff from another team with a track record of not winning and who brings baggage and controversy.

It's a little much to say he has a history of anything when the dude has only managed for 2 years. I think that's an overreaction man. What matters most is not the manager, but how the farm is built this year and next.

Again, Bochy and Posey both met with him, and both approved. As the two figures in this organization that are synonymous with success and doing things the right way, if hes good enough to them, he should be good enough for the fans.

Haven't been paying close attention but how likely is it that Pillar is back with us?

Espada's first year with the Astros was 2018. The year in question is 2017.

Very. Farhan made the acquisition himself, he had a career year, he actually hit well at Oracle, and he won the Willie Mac Award. Id be shocked if he wasn't back.

On KNBR today Larry Krueger was painting a pretty dark picture of what the clubhouse could become this year due to veterans becoming disgruntled with Kapler's schtick.

He mentioned that the corps of veterans who have been there for championship baseball might not be interested in Kapler's philosophy, and it made me check the roster. Now with Bum likely gone, the Giants are down to just Posey, Crawford, and Belt as the only players left who were here for a championship season. Crazy. Obviously Posey isn't going to be causing issues in the clubhouse, and Crawford is probably too comfortable to care. Itd just be Belt who may get disgruntled.

Only 3 left though, just 5 years later.
